Re: LOLbama Money!!!
Can we just declare war on France and call it a day? I mean honestly, surly our politicians couldn't possibly manage to fuck up a war against france... Then again...
Re: LOLbama Money!!!
We got nukes, and despite what you've been brainwashed to think, we won way many more wars than you.

Re: LOLbama Money!!!
Because it's easy.
It's slightly aggravating how quick wannabe "pundits" are to blabber on about how the government uses "our" money to help the poor, but when it comes to bailing out oodles of corporations for billions of dollars, anyone who has any negative opinion is obviously an uninformed liberal pussy who couldn't possibly understand.
I think the more obscure and removed from fact the reasoning is, the more likely your average conservative is to accept it. Give corporations billions and it benefits the poor through trickle-down and everything's OK; directly give the poor cash and holyshittheantichristisgivingawayyourmoneytonegrocrackaddicts.

Re: LOLbama Money!!!
Spiked, you are totally bassackwards.
Conservatives are for the free market. Conservatives DIDN'T WANT THE BAILOUTS! Free market, that means that if the company is gonna go bankrupt, then so be it. But the "LIBERAL PUSSIES" stepped in and wouldn't let the corporations fall, and started throwing shittons of money around to corporations which just made things 50x worse.
Edit: Trickle down economics works. It's been proven over and over again. HOWEVER, it must be executed correctly, or it will jsut backfire.

Re: LOLbama Money!!!
Foreboding, there is a documentary that demonstrated how pure free market economics inevitably fails, its called the shock doctrine, and theres a book by naomi klein.
It shows how free market economics as prescribed by Milton Friedman, lead to disruption in the many latin american countries it was forced upon, how it lead to disasters in the UK under thatcher freemarket policies such as black wednesday, or even the present day situation with russian oligarchs.
The free market doctrine of deregulating financial markets and allowing the market to stabilize itself, contributed enourmously to many of the major financial disasters of the last 40 years, not to mention that many regulations preventing the credit bubble where repealed in the last 20 years by governments supporting miltons free economics.
Not to mention that if the banks went belly up, then the whole economy would collapse, and we'd be stuck. Would you be happy not having the money to buy bread despite having millions in the bank, which vanish overnight because the banks all went belly up, and the only ones left are crippled and powerless, destroyed the next day by panicked consumers executing runs on the bank, withdrawing all its funds and sending the bank into bankruptcy the next day?
Its not that the banks were prevented from failing due to nanny state politics, some banks indeed where allowed to collapse! Its that the banks were allowed to grow to such a huge size, that their collapse threatened to destabilize the entire sector and the economy at large. The bailing out of the bank was more an exercise in national security, than one of liberal antics.
I have noticed of late, it seems to be a liberal versus rightwing stance here, which seems somewhat nonsensical and silly. Ideas are being praised or condemned, not because they are good or bad, but purely because of wether they are considered right or left.

FA, I'm interested in what you consider "working" as. It's easy to use different metrics on this point.

Re: LOLbama Money!!!
Why do Conservatives always appear to have ridiculously short memories?
Don't get me wrong, love for "Democrats" and "Liberals" extends by no means beyond my love for Conservakiddies, but I've noticed that a Conservative will not only tell a complete and utter fabrication, but actually believe it with every ounce of their being, with this quasi-religious sense of innocence and (usually history-baiting) infallibility, not hesitating to bring up (often completely fabricated) examples throughout history of why everything they say, feel, think, eat, dream and perspire is comprehensively untouchable by anything but god-fearing conservatives.

You realize you sound like a hippy pinko defending Communist socialism, right?HOWEVER, it must be executed correctly, or it will jsut backfire.
It being inevitable doesn't make it any less unimaginably idiotic. Particularly considering that "Liberals" are infact themselves right-wingers and the entire US political spectrum is about as varied as Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie arguing about how many calories a cumshot contains. This is sort of inevitable and happens everywhere.
Re: LOLbama Money!!!
Trickle down has never, ever worked.

The ones who are seriously thinking in such a way are usually fanatics, that have no real idea how things truly work, that care more about just being on "side of good",as they define it,than getting to the truth.AF wrote: I have noticed of late, it seems to be a liberal versus rightwing stance here, which seems somewhat nonsensical and silly. They also like to generalize and attack people rather than arguments.
Thinking you can put everything that is bad in a box and seal it tight and call it evil is naive and immature.

Re: LOLbama Money!!!
A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of the redistribution of wealth.
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a
professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father.
He responded by asking how she was doing in school.
Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?"
She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."
Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work!
Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, " Welcome to the Republican party."

Re: LOLbama Money!!!
Basically, there was this war, about 200 years ago. The French and everyone who enjoyed tea went to Canada, while those who drank coffee or were trendy iPod whores stayed south. That's how it started.Gota wrote:Tell me.
How did the us and france become so hostile one to the other?
When and how did this hate start?
Then there's the general French incompetence and weakness during the two world wars, a large part due to Germany's overwhelming power. Even if the whole of the Allied powers had been on the French border waiting to defend, they would've been steamrolled. The Allies had a wall of HLTs backed by a single fusion, the Germans had a weasel rush such as no man has ever seen, and it did not end well for the French.
So then the Americans finally got into the respective war and, truthfully, made a major difference. The Allies would likely still have won if the status quo had remained, but it would have been much longer and bloodier.
So every time an American and a Frenchman meet, the American says "Saved your ass in WW2", and the Frenchman says "ORLY? BTW we burned down the white house". This is how it goes in Canada, anyway.
Generally the French are viewed as being too fancy and liberal for the Americans' taste, while the Americans are viewed as being warmongering hicks with a savior complex. I don't think that the attitude reaches into Canada too much, but American humor is quite pervasive and for some reason everyone likes to make french jokes, even the french sometimes.

Reagan. Also, under Reagan, taxes were lower, but government income was higher. Gee, I wonder how that worked?neddiedrow wrote:Trickle down has never, ever worked.
