Soban:

1. What you need is "AI" - artificial intelligence opponent that will control the units just like the player will. I'm not sure if there is any AI working with NOTA right now, I suggest you to try RAI. Anyway, there is nothing you can edit anywhere in config files to improve the situation.

2. Units in this mod were not meant to be FPSed at all. You have much better control while using the regular strategic view (you can control many units at once, see the minimap etc etc). FPS mode is there mostly for other mods that use it (for example "Com Shooter" and "Air Raid").

Hope this clarifies the situation.

Don't hesitate and come play online! You will definitely loose in the beginning since the game is so incredibly complex, but once you play more, see what good players are doing and learn a bit - you'll kick everyone's butts :)

Well those Icons are easier to understand. IMO Arm units should be on green land while core preferably on a winter setting(metal map background would be too dark).

they look great! much clearer, classier pics and putting them in context helps (torp bomber over sea). I like the starry sky behind the scout plane.

It has it's own external forum. http://nota.strategyboards.com/index.htm
It's a bit slow usually, but it's there.

Uh... Right, sorry. It all started just for kicks, so i didn't put a thought into it.

As for the ships - Umrug was the one who started this and he's the one who makes the overall decisions. The moment he gives me a "go" i'll start processing the... well, whatever "go" will relate to

could you zip the image files up and upload them somewhere? We'll put them in the next version.

I thought most people had the link already

http://rapidshare.com/files/287536916/NOTA161.sd7

And again, sorry for the wrong file naming!
We'll remove the file once new mod version is out.

Sadly, ARM airplanes are taking too much time and will not be done withing a week.

Just copy entire unitpics folder over, replacing any old files. Three new files are added: for arm and core base towers (for people using selectionbuttons) and a picture for core commander gate (was using arm pic before).

Also, the script of core commander gate had one line changed to use the new icon. (You want to check it too, mTm is sleeping now, maybe he'll post exact file/line tomorrow)

Short summary:
- All the new icons are now in 128x96 (instead of previous 96x96), should scale better on most screens.

- Changed buildpics for ARM and CORE economy buildings (except water), ARM and CORE labs (except shipyard/seaplanes), CORE planes.

- New Buildpics: ARM and CORE base towers, CORE commander gate.

The credits are Umrug and mTm. Any, any kind of criticism is welcome - so we know what to improve.

If this is well accepted we will probably do some more.

That's rather obvious.

/units/corplab.fbi:

Code: Select all

[UNITINFO]
	{
	...
	BuildPic=CORPLAB.PCX;
	...
	}

Spacebugs stopped working with the new spring (80.5)
infolog tells us:
[ 0] Loading LuaRules
[ 0] LUARULES-DRAW (GADGETS)
[ 0] Failed to load: unit_morph.lua (Include() could not load 'LuaRules/Headers/billboard.lua')
[ 0] Removing Spacebugs, normal
[ 0] Removing KOTH, normal
[ 0] LUARULES-DRAW (GADGETS)

[EDIT]

Tested with spring 0.80.4.2 - same lines appear in infolog, but the spacebugs work. So its not the problem. No other suspicious infolog lines found - someone who actually knows a bit about specebugs should check it out i guess.

[EDIT]

Some other things, just so you know:
- oh cmon release mod with our buildpics, every time i play our version i go "damn, thats better!"
- crawling bombs are useless, i tried so hard to find any use for them and failed
- some more balance issues i'd like to tell about, but later

- if this is not answered soon someone (like me) will have to make a fixed verion of mod

Umrug, what you should do is make a mutator and upload to jj. I haven't got your version cause rapidshare screwed around with me when i tried to dl.

A mutator is like a mod for a mod. All you include in the mutator is changes (files with the same name will be read from the mutator rather than the main mod) and a config file.. might have to read up on that.

This has the advantages:
1. much lower filesize. people can play it with NOTA 1.60 (mutators are supported by lobby & clients) without a big download. Unfortunately everyone in the game would have to be using the mutator, I'm not sure if a lua widget could do somehting similar with buildpics.

2. its easier for NOTA devs to merge: tiny download.. and no going through the mod picking out files as the mutator only contains those new pics.

I did it for you:

http://www.springfiles.com/show_file.php?id=2334

I called it NOTA 1.60bp1 (bp for buildpic)

1.53 MB download. Just treat it like any other mod (but requires NOTA 1.60 installed).

I think I got all the updated files. I just went by your comments, sorted by 'date modified' and figured it out from there. If not, you can easily add them and upload a new version (or I could do it). Please check.

I'll take a look at spacebugs. If you have other balance issues you might as well post them.

What do people think about flying wings? overpowered?

I would personally say that sea flak doesnt kill them all that well. Other than that, being expensive slow and relatively fragile they are on the spot where they should be.

Edit:

And btw, the ARM AA cruiser, has 4 quad flak cannons, makes a LOT of noise and puffs in air, with little to no effect usually. its equivalent of maybe 4 ground flaks? I would rather see it being more expensive but actually packing some punch. Even against strat bombers.

Wings haven't really been a problem since they lost the ability to write their names with their lasers.
