I'm just waiting on my RTM x64 to come before I start this. Should be a few days.

Multitouch support... great idea, but it's going to be a while before it'll make a difference. a long while. 1-2 years easy.
Re: Multitouch Screen Support (I will dev, looking for interest)
only relatively inexpensive practical things I saw with multitouch are laptops that probably don't have the power to play spring

SDL doesn't even support pressure from tablets? Seriously? Epic fail.Caydr wrote:Don't hold your breath waiting for SDL support, it doesn't support 3D mice, tablets, or anything else nonstandard. These have a larger install base and greater ease of use than touchscreens.
edit: however, googling did reveal the ManyMouse library, a cross-platform library for supporting multiple mice as seperate pointers. Nifty!
Re: Multitouch Screen Support (I will dev, looking for interest)
Well, then, let's make it standard!
Re: Multitouch Screen Support (I will dev, looking for interest)
i'm not convinced this would make Spring any easier to play.

Have you ever tried any of these awesome technologies?
Re: Multitouch Screen Support (I will dev, looking for interest)
I've seen Minority Report. What I meant was defining the kind of gestures that are actually useful and worth moving your hands anyway from the keyboard. Multi-touch has a novelty factor but it breaks down when you try and apply that novelty for serious work (or play) in an environment that was not specifically designed or suited to it. It even has the potential to reduce playability if the gesture recognision is weak, or responds badly to system lag. This is pretty common in the gesture systems I have used (Black & White and several PDAs with so-called handwriting recognision).

Who said this is supposed to make spring easier to play?SpliFF wrote:i'm not convinced this would make Spring any easier to play.
As for hardware, the HP Touchsmarts have robust video card options, and my tx2 runs Spring at a decent framerate on medium-low.
This is just something interesting I want to try out, not something intended to improve gameplay.

FWIW i have a kickass tablet (lenovo) and i was thinking of the following scenario:
1) hookup external monitor in mirror desktop mode
2) display minimap on tablet screen
3) use mouse for regular stuff
4) if i need uberprecise micro or something i can just use tablet pen
fuck yeahhh
or do expanded desktop, minimap + status bars on one screen, main battle window on other screen.

Multitouch with custom formations would rock hard. The problem would be to have it recognise the difference between path movement and formation movement.
