Long load times, even with paths already done

Post by Dragon45 »

Okay, clocked a load on DSD at a solid 7:55 (7 minutes, 55 seconds, this is with paths already loaded in a previous session). Then the game starts, it lags madly, and the comms are on top of each other, and i click mine to run away, and its still lagging madly, and then the game ends on commsplosion. i think LUA is partially to blame :(

What should average load time be?

windows XP
Specs - T2500 @ 2 ghz * 2
1 gig RAM
ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 (256 meg)
10 gigs HDD space free
2 gig page file

Also, any way to do do pathing for maps in batches before actually going in game?

relevant springsettings - luashaders support enabled, water - reflective, 3d trees, 24-bit z-buffer

edit 2: disabled luashaders, changing water to basic, and setting groundecals to 0 brought the load time down to ~ 6 minutes

aaaaaaaaaaaand a new twist in this tale

tried under ubuntu; load times are reasonable (< 2 minutes) but retarded driver issue of some sort is raeping my computer and ocking up after map has loaded, and it loads with checkerboard patches and of course there is no god damn binary blob driver for jaunty because ATI are bunch of cocksuckers and free one doesnt work @_@

expected driver issue though, so no complaints really. just want raep load times under xp install figured out... i tihnk im gonna try reinstalling.

That's a pretty amazing load time. Loads faster on my netbook actually, including pathing... I mean, under 2 minutes, certainly. What the heck is wrong with your computer?

If I have the map pathed, its <10 seconds, if I dont, its ~20.
It might be the prospector widget, try disabling LuaUI altogether.

8 minutes is ridiculously long. During which loading state does it spend most time?

I was thinking, infolog contains the total amount of time spend parsing unit definitions, right? Why not put a total time at the end of each major loading segment, with a total at the end?

Would be useful for troubleshooting, benchmarking, etc.

I'd say there is something wrong with your system. Do you have a heat sink on your CPU? Infected by viruses maybe?
