Which form for a tutorial / manual do you prefer?

Post by Master-Athmos »

So you want to know something about scripting, modelling or whatever else and you go to the Wiki. In which form would you prefer an extensive tutorial / "manual" - something simply written down in the Wiki, a PDF you have to download or something else?

Opinions?

A tiny mod with every file heavily commented that you are free to use as a base.

+1

There are several starts out there, by several different people. I suggest we bring them into one community project.

Ok that's a good point but still you'll need e.g. a tutorial on s3o explaining the entire concept, what texture1 and texture2 does and how you create them and so on...

Which form do you prefer for that? A simple Wiki entry? A downloadable PDF maybe even with a nice layout so you can print it out and always have it next to you? Maybe you love Youtube tutorial videos or Flash animations as the learning source of your choice (the latter most certainly not coming from me as I don't have Flash)?

Wiki entry. PDFs get out of date fast, see the Lua guide which takes AA eccentricities and talks about them as if they're universal fact.

And there's probably a wiki addon which would allow a "download this page" button, if the user doesn't know how to do that by other means.

If you're going to make something, just make sure it's not an epic journey through obscure links to find it.
