Maybe a ban on meat, if worldwide enforced, is the right thing to do, but I don't think we will see this in the near future.
This sentiment disgusts me and makes me want to rage. But instead, I think I will go warm up my frying pan :-)

Tell that to the baconator I just devoured.
I have no issues with that, come on it's not that bad. I like tasty, tasty animal flesh, and accept the process through which it ends up in front of me between two soft, white buns and covered in slowly melting cheese.
Furthermore, animals eat each other too since millions of years.
But it's still a purely cultural, not natural thing.
You're contradicting yourself pretty heavily here... Are you saying that humans should not be predators, that eating meat is solely a societal fabrication? How would changing that be any different from denying meat to any other omnivorous species? Should we impress the ~*grand moral and ethical issues*~ of eating meat upon every bear in existence? What about carnivores? They're even worse! Death to all lions and eagles!

Only the cows that human bred to feed on. Where have all the wild cows gone?
That's because cowboys went extinct, which was in turn because men lost their balls due to not eating enough meat.

Would the original cows mind if that happened? Instead cows are being bred into steroid monsters with humongous tits, does that make the cow ancestors happy either hmm?
Holy crap. Steroid monsters? Enormous tits? "You are what you eat" has a whole new meaning now.

I was using the term cultural extremely loosely here, I thought that was obvious. The point I was trying to make was that eat or be eaten is by no means necessary for life. Herbivores are very successful species.

We shouldn't impose our morals on others, but lead by a good example. We can't just ignore the fact that we are, in contrast to wild carnivore animals, able to stop this. So I really don't know if killing animals just for a bit of pleasure and fun is worth it. This just seems a bit disproportionate to me.

Is that high seal population the only species that gets hunted or are there endangered specieses that suffer from the hunt as well?

Other than that, bunny meat is pretty common and bunnies are probably some of the cutest animals there are. Horse meat is good too.

Lolthread.

As an aside: 90% of the time, when some random finds out that I am vegetarian, they immediately launch into a tirade onto why I should not be, as opposed to asking me why I am.

I bet the boy-cows don't mind... especially because their lot in life now revolves around eating, sleeping and ejaculating.

There are three valid reasons to be vegetarian.

Industry vegetarians, who feel that commercial "meat" production is un-ethical and/or that hunting for sport is wrong.
Vegans/Certain Buddhists/Etc. who feel that all life is sacred and literally would not hurt a fly.
Dietary concerns(aka you can't physically eat meat or have chosen not to eat meat because you have found a healthier alternative).

Just for the record, my first question to a vegetarian is usually "Do you mind if I eat meat?"... If I don't just ignore the fact completely... though sometimes I might ask where they get their protein and iron... out of idle curiosity.

As I understand it male cows tend to die early in favour of females because females can produce milk/tend to be easier to keep/etc etc etc

People can eat seal meat, but unfortunately any store that would try to sell it would be protested and covered with red paint or whatever... so I think only the Inuit and people living in seal-hunting communities acctually eat seal.

Seal meat it a healthy source of all the things red meat is good for in addition to omega-3 fatty acids (or whatever).

In searching the Internet I cam across the fact that in Russia, they acctually farm white-coat harp-seals... so, at least Canada let's them live in the wild before we hunt them.

the only good animal is one that has undergone the heavenly transition of butchery

hmm...

seals are freaking cute as hell with their lil faces and their funny noises. i like them. however, i like cod as well. it's delicious when battered and deep-fried, with that light flakey texture.

seals eat cod and other sea life; as much as i hate the idea of killing the cuddly little guys, they must have their population culled (IIRC, bears and whales eat them, bother of which are fewer in number year by year)

better to be concerned about animal species that are actually endangered IMO...

i'd rather kill FIVE seals than hurt this little mite!
