Experimental Grass map

Post by TARevenger »

I created a map with grass on dirt texture instead of green texture to make the map more realistic

more eye candy for highend Gfx Cards.
anyway of getting grass to show on lowend gfx cards

It doesn't really look too much more realistic. The grass is too sparse. It does have a neat look though.

Texturing is faster than grass. And that grass isn't too great anyway.

I still think little patches of green should be added to the dirt, only long grass doesn't look quite right.

It does kinda remind me of a ricefield or something...

Does do a nice job of anti aliasing the horizon though.

This sorta does that....

Metal map

added lots of trees and made the grass as full as we can get it 255 blue channel.
using the heightmap in the red channel for metal map (more metal on higher ground).
adding geothermal vents and making a green version for lowend gfx cards.

The current ai likes making lots metal makers on this map

I agree with you there the grass needs to be greener, thicker and draw distance should be increased so we can see the grass clear across the map and features should show on the minimap for it to be effective on this map

Ill try to make a nice rolling hill type of map for your AI's. Might not look pretty, or be entirley balanced, but it will have nice rolling hills.
Do you want a specific size?
And how much/What type of metal? (OTA or like the map here?)

On topic again, the map look good. Are you going to release it, or is it just for show?

I'll redo the texture as it isn't very good with the current grass appearence then release it

Try swaping the trees for evergreens, as it will make it look more real. It's a lot like the dry areas around the Rocky Mountains that have sparce Juniphers(shoet scragly pines). And make the grass color a slight yellow/tan.

I'd say you should make the land a thicker darker brown, see how that plays out...

hmmm if the mex handler cant find any mex spots then the mex tasks simply get overlooked by the AI and get skipped.

Make your mex map more defined and you'll get better results.

As for the AI rolling hills map, I think you might have run for your money with GZ's alaska. Otherwise I posted somewhere in thsi forum a very godo description of what i wanted, some where like a wide variety of types fo terrains and different terrainf eatures, maybe part of the map would eb like a metal map, while others more spring style metal, and others OTA style.

Well, as requested by Atlanti, I made a map. Nothing special, but it might do. Its over at FU:
http://www.fileuniverse.com/?p=showitem&ID=1723

Oh and i said aGorm wanted it on FU, but I ment Atlanti.

Its nothing special, just threw it together in a few hours. Dunno about the metal, there shouldnt be TO much, but im not very experienced in these things. And the map does not really have a nice texture, but it dont look to bad anyways.

I've got the experimental grass map up on a temporary ftp server If someone could upload the 2 maps there to file universe

the texture has been rerendered to for lowend GFX cards

ftp://219.89.220.77/ValleyofDeath.sd7 and ftp://219.89.220.77/ValleyofWar.sd7 Username and password is TASpring

on the topic of trees, can images of the 15 trees available be posted somewhere?
