Change mods on autohosts

Post by Sabutai »

It's turning people off not being able to play sth other than BA. Where did the autohosts go that could be set to change the mod?

Are you sure it wasn't possible to change the mod on these autohosts ?

With current Spring lobby protocol, the mod cannot be changed without rehosting.
In SPADS, such settings are called "hosting settings" because they are set staticly when opening the battle host.

If the autohost administrator chose to allow several mods on his autohost, he may have done it in several ways (in SPADS):

Maybe he prepared a global preset for this mod (global presets can alter all settings: SPADS settings, hosting settings, and mod/battle settings).
You can check this by listing the global presets: "!list presets", and then applying the wanted global preset: "!preset <presetName>".

If you didn't find any global preset for this mod, maybe the autohost admin prepared a hosting preset instead.
You can check this by listing the hosting presets: "!list hPresets", and then applying the wanted hosting preset: "!hPreset <hostingPresetName>".

If you didn't find any hosting preset for this mod, maybe the autohost admin just chose to allow changing the mod directly (not recommended, see below).
You can check this by checking the allowed values for the modName hosting setting: "!list hSettings all", and then applying the wanted mod if allowed: "!hSet modName <modName>".

Finally, if you didn't find the wanted mod in the allowed values of the modName hosting setting, you can try to ask the autohost admin to add/allow this mod on his autohost.
If he decides to do so, he should encapsulate this mod inside a preset (a global preset if he wants to alter other settings when changing mod, or a hosting preset else), so the users won't have to type the entire mod name each time they want to change it.

On springie just do !voterehost modname
They should be able to host most mods even when not installed on them.

Except, autohosts where you can change mod invariably end up hosting BA. :P

Not necessarily. You can just not have BA as an option.

There are always plenty of BA games going, it makes perfect sense for autohosts to be locked to lesser played games/mods to make sure there is always a battleroom open for that game/mod. :|

I find the the original request in the OP to be strange. Instead of requesting that BA autohosts allow mod change, ask existing autohost owners to dedicate autohosts to the games you're interested in, or set up your own, or find someone to set one up for you.

Next version of springie will be able to host any mod/map without having them and without annoying modinfobuilder stuff..

Will we still be able to restrict what our hosts will allow to be played?
