Fast unit with radar jammer vs radar update delay
Suppose I gave a radar jammer to, say, arm fighters. I give the radar jamming a radius of 16, just enough to cover the unit itself.
I tell the unit to move. I watch as it moves with LoS mode on (L key) and I see that the radar jamming only updates every 2 seconds or so. During the time that the unit is outside the radius of the apparent jammed area (indicated by red on LoS map), is it detected by enemy radar?
I've had this question for a while. I know I tested it one time but I don't remember what the result was. I'm sure this is a common question so I thought I'd just ask.
Thanks

IIRC losmap doesnt update every frame, but fighter will still stay stealthy.
Re: Fast unit with radar jammer vs radar update delay
You do have the jamming fighter set to stealth, right?
Re: Fast unit with radar jammer vs radar update delay
Also, isnt mini jammer only needed for stealthy trans so that it stealthes the units being transported?
Re: Fast unit with radar jammer vs radar update delay
No, the fighter is not set to stealth, it only has a short-range radar jammer. Yes, a "stealthy" air transport would be a better example. Actually an ideal example.
So then, you've got an air transport with a short range radar jammer, only enough to cover itself and whatever it's carrying. It is moving fast, say... 20 maxvelocity. Twice as fast as a Hawk. Fast. Will the transport itself or the carried unit be revealed at any time assuming the jammer remains active?

Have you considered just testing it?Caydr wrote:No, the fighter is not set to stealth, it only has a short-range radar jammer. Yes, a "stealthy" air transport would be a better example. Actually an ideal example.

Re: Fast unit with radar jammer vs radar update delay
Well I don't know how it's currently but I can remember that while playing Com-Shooter and moving around with the Arm Commander (which has such a tiny jammer range too) made you become visible on radar - only when not moving you had an effective stealth...
Re: Fast unit with radar jammer vs radar update delay
I considered it, but I thought asking would get me a faster, more confident answer since this seems like such an obvious question... I guess I'll have to test after all.CarRepairer wrote:Have you considered just testing it?
Re: Fast unit with radar jammer vs radar update delay
Wouldn't a simpler solution be to give the transport stealth and then cause it to give whatever it's carrying stealth via lua?
Re: Fast unit with radar jammer vs radar update delay
The first thing I noticed when I installed Supcom:Forged Alliance is that unlike in regular Supcom and Spring the LOS updates very smoothly, made the game feel smoother (But I guess it requires complex calculations)
Re: Fast unit with radar jammer vs radar update delay
Kram: It probably smoothly updates a "fake" LoS and only updates the "real" LoS infrequently.
Actually, that's a pretty good idea... *goes to LUA forum*

So, use LUA just because we can, basically.YokoZar wrote:Wouldn't a simpler solution be to give the transport stealth and then cause it to give whatever it's carrying stealth via lua?
Re: Fast unit with radar jammer vs radar update delay
Why would it waste cpu power on a fake LOS with more detail than the real one? Spring updates LOS twice a second.
Re: Fast unit with radar jammer vs radar update delay
make radar jammer coverage of unit just big enough to exceed the amount of distance it can travel in 2/3 of a second...
