video conversion
Is there anyway to take these FLV videos and turn them over to a more media friendly format the likes of ipods/psp etc would play without getting dodgy converter applications that spam google?

FFmpeg
also, I recommend the youtube downloader at http://youtubedownload.altervista.org/ . It's simple, useful, and (AFAIK) spyware-free.

Re: video conversion
AF, do you really think it's a derail attempt? It's just a simple side note (meant to annoy you).
I like mediacoder.

Re: video conversion
Well you most certainly won't get around recoding the video in order to get something else. SUPER is a very popular tool for doing that and I also used it sometimes. It's easy to understand and does what it should without too much fancy tech details (although I wouldn't mind some). I only had problems with certain sound settings it didn't really like to encode to but that's just a minor issue...

Re: video conversion

Re: video conversion

Re: video conversion
you can download them from youtube as mp4 iirc... something to do with the mobile interface...
if you're putting them on your iphone, try yourtube or mxtube - they'll download the videos directly to your phone.

Re: video conversion
Mediacoder is more flexible but not as noob friendly and if you look at it funny the interface breaks.
Super is more noob friendly but cuts out some pretty good features.
Handbrake is somewhere in-between.
Those are "big three" of ungay media encoders, and they're all free. I prefer to use mediacoder since I'm a real man with huge balls.

Re: video conversion
My iphone isnt jail broken, and I had handbrake but it crashed whenever it started converting the videos leaving me with 24kb mp4's
Re: video conversion
ffdshow, avisynth and x264 will result in nice little mp4's.
Re: video conversion
VLC can reencode to x264/aac in an mp4 container. mencoder is quite nice too if you're into command line apps. It uses ffmpeg to create PSP videos though.
If you happen to use Firefox and the Flashgot plugin then you may have noticed the little flashing icon in the lower right. You can grab what ever file the flash applet is downloading from there by clicking on it. It's an mp4 for HQ/HD stuff.if you're putting them on your iphone, try yourtube or mxtube - they'll download the videos directly to your phone.
Re: video conversion
VLC generates audio only files regardless of what options I put in here, hence why I started this thread
Re: video conversion
Indeed VLC can't convert FLVs properly
Re: video conversion
Just use mediacoder and stop failing so hard.
