No Textures, but many minimaps

Post by Tgov »

Whenever I try to run a Spring Mod I get this strange Error: The map has no textures, but there are hundreds of small mini-maps of the map on the ground instead. Units and buildings seem to be mostly yellow. oO

System:
Ubuntu 9.04
ATI Radeon x1950 GT (driver: radeonHD)
2 GB Ram
Intel Pentium D 2x2,8GHz

I installed it as described in the Linux set up guide.
Please Help :(

i am 99% sure this is a graphics driver issue. in general, ATI & Ubuntu 9.04 is a very bad combination. 8.04 is much better. Also, radeon should be better for spring then radeonHD, and fglrx even better, IF you get it to run for your card under 9.04 (which is highly unlikely).
i am a spring dev, surrently using Ubuntu 9.04 With an ATI X1400. And i plan to revert to 8.04 as soon as possible, cause fglrx used to work well there (mainly cause of the used version of xorg, but also other things, that changed in 8.10).

so:
1. try radeon driver
2. try fglrx (if you like pain)
3. forget about spring on linux or use Ubuntu 8.04 or an other distro
(for 8.04 you need to backport a recent OpenAL and boost 1.35+ to play current release of spring)

Okay, then i'll forget about spring on linux.. cause I already tried the radeon driver, and the last time i tried fglrx the whole system crashed :-(
Strange though, because there are other 3D games which work on my system. I hate ATI.

Thank you anyway :-)

People had been having good luck running Spring via Wine back in the bad old days... if you have a working stable install of wine it might be worth a try (in theory that would let you use the windows version of the ATI driver... which is better).

Quoted because it is just totally wrong.

Doesn't seem to work via vine:
Runtime Error
abnormal program termination

Do i have to install graphic-drivers for wine separately?
Anyway, I didn't really expect it to work.. :D

Wine uses your system's graphic drivers.
