Re: Some Stuff That Happened Saturday Night
1. Smoth, I am merely pointing out that you don't need to write new code, you can simply recycle what's already done.
Why waste time reinventing the wheel here?
2. Your objections to the current implementation are content-based. I solved all of the other problems- knocking trees over, etc., is all very easy now, and the code's been stable for almost three months now.
If you want the content fixed, it's up to you to use your time to fix them, and distribute a World Builder fork- it would save a lot of time here. It is not my job to cater to every possible objection, especially one that's based on a very narrow interpretation of what is "correct scale".
3. I have no problems with a fork, and would be happy to provide updates here on a regular basis, or putting the project on a SVN.
When you start to see the amount of time it takes, to build something like this, which I've been adding to over the course of a year now, you'll understand why I think it's a massive waste of human resources to have multiple things out there that all do the same job. It's simply more efficient to put it all in one place.
ModelBase + World Builder offers that place to everybody... ignoring it is pretty much kissing your time goodbye for months at the very least, while I continue to make the available content richer and more complete. The next version, for example, has the complete Space Chickens set, with normalmap support, all of the NanoBlobs models that were worth saving, new buildings, civilian vehicles and plant sets, etc., etc., etc...
Basically, this is one of those projects where it's simply most efficient to do it collectively. All people have to do is:
A. See that if we're wasting time on license wars, we're just wasting time, on something like this.
I could have kept World Builder private, and can take it private the minute I drop stuff I didn't make, but I see no real benefit for anybody in doing so. I like the idea that people will be able to make complete games with the content fairly soon, without having to know anything about modeling or animation. That's something the OTA mods have always had, and it's cool to know that will no longer be the case soon.
B. Get over the fact that I built it and am maintaining it. I mean... really, folks. Get over it! It's cool, it's free, it's Open Source, and if you're really pissy about it, you can fork it and still save a lot of time.

Re: Some Stuff That Happened Saturday Night
Ok since I am posting from my iPhone i'll be brief. Worlbuilder does not Do what I want. There is nothing wrong with different toolsets. I understand that you have like dealt with several issues that I will have to deal with.
I have a different purpose in mind for gundam, this tool may well just stay in gundam, not being used by anyone else. I am going to like it because I am custom writing it for me.
You may or may not agree with this but much of your code is not to my liking and I would like spend weeks cleaning your code. That is primarily what I do as a professional. Working with a codenase that is a mess and cleaning it up and fixing bugs is time consuming when compaired to writing it yourself.
Not saying my feature placer code is yet up to stuff I am a lua novice at best. Writing this code gives me the chance to learn more. Somtimes learning requires redundant work.
I have not tried your latest of world builder, I might when I get back from globe trotting. Sadly, I don't have the time to go to japan
. So I will miss the 1:1 gundam in Tokyo.
Any I do appreciate the civil reply and wish that more of our interactions were thus they can be in the future as we both can be reasonable people. I did not start work on this to in anyway antagonize you just something I wanted to see done in a specific way.

Re: Some Stuff That Happened Saturday Night
Well blame the fucking cellular networks. I want to stay with my gold razor but the wankers decided that only iPhones will get full acess, if I kept my razor iwould not even be able to acess this site. It is bullshit and no one is regulating them!
Re: Some Stuff That Happened Saturday Night
It's utterly ludicrous that Apple, a company that is the most locked-in and restrictive vendor in the PC world, moves over to the Smartphone universe with a platform even more locked-in and restricted than their PCs, and is the most permissive and user-empowering vendor in that realm.
I own an LG Rumor. I am constantly startled at all the simple things that I am not allowed to do with it.

I have a Blackberry Pearl with wifi and I was told I have to pay to get wifi and I can only access certain sites. What.
Re: Some Stuff That Happened Saturday Night
yeah they are doing that to push out the new phones, my razor was able to acess the net fine, it is just some arbitrary restriction to push hardware.
Argh, I would give you a more complete reply but right now my phone connection times out because I am in the middle of nowhere aus.

Re: Some Stuff That Happened Saturday Night
You have an EEE. I don't think so.
Re: Some Stuff That Happened Saturday Night
Argh, take this from a neutral standpoint please and not an attack. I haven't been around enough recently to know the history of all this, so I can only go by what I've seen in the last few weeks.
You've made some bad choices. I feel intimidated by your obvious expertise but at the same time the way you flaunt it and expect people to automatically exempt you from basic social rules makes it hard for me to sympathize with you.
You need to get away from this for a while, I think. Your contributions are important but people have grown to resent you for pointing them out so frequently.
Making posts that begin with things like, "Well nobody knows how to do this and I'm not getting anywhere asking questions, so I guess I'll just have to do all the hard work myself as usual" (paraphrased example) for instance, makes me actually grin because I think it's going to be the beginning of an awesome joke about a guy who thinks he's better than everyone. Then I realize I'm in the development forum, and it's just another day.
I recently PMed you. Since PMs are by nature "private" I won't post your reply to this, but consider this innocent question:
You're a professional game developer now, by your own decision. You need to act more like one or Stardock is going to take notice. For the sake of your own career you need to relax a bit, stop taking each and every uneducated criticism so seriously, and really work on trying to be more diplomatic without being overly condescending - even if the person or persons you're talking with may not be as skilled as you.
Argh, you're a person with physical characteristics which the opposite sex frequently finds unattractive. Argh, you are a man of questionable morality. Argh, your mod sucks. Argh, you eat babies. Argh, your mom's so dumb, she makes mods about Gundam.
I've never seen a picture of anything but what I presume to be your overexposed face. I have no idea of your morality. I've never played, installed, or even seen PURE. I do not have any solid proof you have eaten a baby. I've never met your mother, so I have no idea whether she would do something so silly. Why would you care what I say when I have no idea about any of these things? You're getting upset over some guy who can't even spell "condescending" properly claiming that you are somehow the physical embodiment of a meaningless curse word.

Well, since this seems to be something that won't get fixed until I get digging into it, I've taken a look at why Unit / Feature shadows remain broken.
I'd like to propose some ideas:
[long list of advanced technical things you seem to think people are going to do just because you asked]
Quoting people who misspell a word, repeatedly, making it the theme of your post, is a dick move.Shadowmaps aren't being updated for Units in motion properly. [removed] It's a lot more noticable with my GLSL shadowmap implementation, which I now have working
The best response would have been no response. Some random guy you've never met calls you names and you actually think you need to respond to it? People call each other names all the time, it doesn't matter.Argh wrote:...calling me a "condascending fuck" is both personal and ridiculous....Argh, you're a condascending fuck.

...I don't really mind stuff like, "hey, that thing I did was shitty", because that's self-reflection. When it becomes, "hey that thing you did was shitty", you've crossed a line there...
...Where is the special "abuse me" rule?

All I asked about was cheating widgets, and you made an entire textwall about PURE features. I'm not posting it here because it was a PRIVATE message, but maybe you should read it over. You're like a bomb that could go off at any moment, spewing self-reference and PURE info.caydr wrote:You're trying to make PURE into a commercial game, right? Have you thought about a career in life coaching?

Put simply:
Let your work do the talking for you, use actions not word, and keep an air of mystery about yourself. Getting involved in this community in the way you have wont help you, it didnt help me.

Still missing the whole point about Argh, which is that he poses as an expert lecturing on technical subjects he has zero idea about.
