Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.

Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.
I'm really not sure what more I can explain because I have no freakin' idea what's causing it, I have the correct port (8452 right?) forwarded in both TCP and UDP, and I can't join, or host a game, if I join, I just timeout, if I host, everyone else just times out.
I'm not running any firewall software besides that built into my router, which I've not had any issues with in the past.
Any help is much appreciated, more info can be given upon request.

Your on windows, right?
You should be able to use hosts that dont have a <!> next to them in the battle room. Those are NAT hosts, and some people cant connect to them.
Can you play any other multiplayer internet game?

Re: Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.
I've not found a single multiplayer game that I've NOT been able to (join and) play, although even though I've got my ports forwarded correctly, and the NAT checks out (for instance in Games for Windows Live) as open, I still can't host.
And yeah, I'm on Windows 7 build 7100 Release Candidate.

So you cant even play on autohosts that dont have the <!> next to their status box?
Re: Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.
is windows firewall enabled? if so, is spring whitelisted?
Re: Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.
I had this problem in Vista. Go into the Windows Firewall management screen (in Vista, just type "Firewall" into start search) and delete all the Spring entries.Nige111 wrote:I'm really not sure what more I can explain because I have no freakin' idea what's causing it, I have the correct port (8452 right?) forwarded in both TCP and UDP, and I can't join, or host a game, if I join, I just timeout, if I host, everyone else just times out.

I don't know why, but apparently 0.78 and 0.79 are different in some way that makes Windows Firewall block everything for 0.79 if it's still whitelisting 0.78.
Crazy, I know.
Re: Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.
Windows firewall is disabled, and has been for quite some time.
As for playing on autohosts or whatever, I don't see any servers with <!> on them so I can't test this. 3:
Besides, even if I COULD play on them I only want to play spring with some friends, preferably on a server hosted by one of us.
Does Spring have LAN support? I could just play over hamachi if it did.

Re: Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.
yes you can play spring in LAN, you just have to run your own lobby server (in LAN mode).

Re: Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.
maybe you got no internet ?

Re: Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.
Alright, I'll give the LAN stuff a shot over Hamachi, if it works, it works, but I've still got this huge issue to deal with, and chances are spring won't be the last game I'll have this issue with. ;_;
Re: Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.
The <!> is meant to be a yellow triangle with a ! in it.
Re: Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.
Okay, I can't even get the server thing to work, I launch it with JRE and nothing happens, it loads (hourglass cursor) for a few seconds and that's it, but the Java runtime exe keeps running in the background using about 15mb of memory.

Thats it, just connect your lobby to 127.0.0.1:8200.Nige111 wrote:Okay, I can't even get the server thing to work, I launch it with JRE and nothing happens, it loads (hourglass cursor) for a few seconds and that's it, but the Java runtime exe keeps running in the background using about 15mb of memory.
Re: Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.
you could try to launnch in from a command prompt, to see it is active, and be able to close it more easyly maybe.
Re: Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.
I'm not sure how to do that, sorry, do I just open the .jar in a prompt or what? D:
Disregard that, I suck cocks.
Server's working fine, I can connect to it, I just need to test if my friend can now.
Edit:
Nope, even though he can connect to my master with the hamachi IP, he still can't join, regardless what port I use and if I use hole punching.

Re: Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.
make sure you do not host the game from the same pc you run the lobby server from, or the server will fail to resolve the lan ip of the hoster and will broadcast 127.0.0.1 to the people who want to join making the connection impossible
Re: Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.
I see... Okay, I'll get it going on my laptop and report back with results.
Re: Cannot host, or even connect to any servers.
Little bit of a late reply since I managed to get everything working, but the lobby server DID work after I set it up on my laptop instead, although it's kinda not needed now since I can host normally, I just turned off my router's firewall and everything was fine.
I guess it had pretty anal NAT, even if the ports were forwarded.
