He was taking painkillers from his doctor daily. He knew they were harming his body, his doctor told him that. Yet, he was addicted. I don't feel much sympathy for him as he brought it on himself. It was his own fault. I personally don't believe he assaulted kids, but he sure wasn't a normal guy.

His music was great, but that really doesn't say anything about his character and personality. Fans really only love him for his music, not for his attitude.
