I can't remember the username, but it was definitely someone from here. Basically it said something to the effect of that there was no reason to buy pure because it sucked and that you could easily merge rc6 with the official and not have anything to worry about.

There was more but I can't remember.

Saying it sucks is all fine and good, no big deal, but going on a game's website/forum and telling people how to pirate the game is going way too far.

SOSE, did people go on that forum and tell all the other users that they didn't need to buy it but could just copy a friends cd?

You wanna say that is some random forum that isn't related to anything, fine, whatever, but doing that on the game's own forum is nothing but completely disrespectful and despicable.

You idiots should be happy that PURE has gone commercial. Not many OS engines can claim that they have had retail games spawned from it. PURE doing well could be a boon for this place, but most of you are too damn stupid to see it.

It basically comes from him posing as an expert on subjects he's incompetent about.

On itv in the UK of a lunch time theres an old bright orange man with long gray curly hair who does this with antiques. Nobody complains about him though, we all just giggle at how cheesey it is

t *should* be a boon, however because nobody wants to deal with the TA debacle, the increased attention will actually damage, not help the spring engine.

I remember a forb that was once less preoccupied with being predominately right. I miss that one.

It might have something to do with stuff like this. Zwzsg owns Argh so hard in that thread it's not even funny. Well, actually it is. Which is why I made this.

Oh come on, don't patronize me.

First of all, I haven't changed, however, some of my views have.

Basically, interest. Being able to claim that a successful (I hope) game was produced off of this engine is really really cool and at the very least would bring more interest here, which is what we need.

Well then bring it on, if it NEEDS to happen for us to ultimately grow, then hell yes.

In a way it would be nice if someone had the balls to fork the project and sanitize TA workings, but we all know that wouldn't do any good, because the devs here will follow the TA stuff because it's popular and the engine actually gets used. As much as I would like to be able to, I'm not sure I can fault them for that either.

What I gather is, as long as TA is around in spring, spring = small with little possibility of growth, whereas remove TA from spring, spring immediately shrinks, but has the possibility of exponental growth and exposure.

Sigh, which is better for the long run?

Um, why does having TA in it make it impossible to grow? Or even how does it decrease the probability of exponential growth?

Imo all we need is a version 1.0 release, that could get us on slashdot.

The project is TA-free; what would be the point of a fork?

but what is success forb? I don't think argh was ready for commercial release, in fact if I were to be so bold I would call his project an embarrassment. It was unable to successfully launch and argh released prematurely, these resulted in disaster. This isn't me trying to bash argh, I think it was probably humiliating for the dude and I feel a little bad for him. However, he chose to release something of that caliber.

Most of pure is a rush job, argh can try and double back on that now but his texture work shows that pretty obviously. There are other issues but I'll leave that up to artistic difference of opinion.

I do not think his project was successful. I think argh has succeed at being what he always has been great at hype.

So I am seriously asking, how was this a good thing?

How many people do you think came to play a spring mod, then realized that some other spring mod used IP from TA, and then left because of this?

The real question is how many journalists, websites, magazines, open source gurus, editoralists, etc.. wanted to talk about Spring then decided not to because it's not truely free of rights?

to be honest, i think only open source gurus would have the qualms you speak of. and to be even more honest, i don't think open source gurus really influence the average gamer that much.

i seriously do not believe that mainstream media would write any more about spring if there were no TA mods. in fact, since spring is behind several years graphics-wise, being mentioned in context of TA is the only chance spring actually has being mentioned by the mainstream media.

the TA gameplay has been developed by a large, professional team a long time ago and refined for over ten years, while most other mods have been made by like two guys in their free time. how could the quality possibly compare? TA mods will always be the flagship of the spring engine, and i personally believe efforts to undermine TA mods are actively hurting the engine and the community.

that is, they would be, if anyone actually listened to them. luckily, the devs seem to share my viewpoint.
