Am I missing something?
Windows 7 will not have internet explorer bundled with it.
Users will have to download a browser of their choice
but wait!!! To download firefox or opera etc etc we need to go to their websites
to go to their websites we need a browser!
To get a browser we need to go to their websites
To go to their websites we need a browser!
logical loop ensues

Re: Am I missing something?
I see a few ways in which this might work.
First, Internet Explorer might just be renamed to Windows Explorer for ex., so there is no IE on the machine, but there is a browser.
Second, there may be some new tool which connects to MS site, gets a list of 'supported' browsers from there and offers the user a choice, and then downloads the browser.

hmm, typing a url in the windows address bar opens it in firefox (default browser) instead of the old-school way of using the integrated IE browsing engine

Re: Am I missing something?
Just order the browser you need by phone. It will be mailed to your house on a CD for a small shipping fee.
Re: Am I missing something?
you could use the command-line ftp client or pipe telnet to a file to download one...
Re: Am I missing something?
This would be the broken link. It'll have some choices and it will download them all by itself, like a big boy OS.AF wrote:To get a browser we need to go to their websites
Edit: Another site is suggesting it won't. I don't know, but it *could* do that easily.
Re: Am I missing something?
You could make a small tiny browser with no functions at all other than to browse the web in Visual Basic for example. Just takes a few clicks.
If you don't have Visual Basic, you'll have to download it from their website.
Alternatively, you could just take it with you from your current machine on a storage device.

Re: Am I missing something?
Doesn't that use an IE component? Will they still bundle that?
Edit: It looks like they will. So you'll still have IE, just not iexplore.exe.

So to tame the Firefox - you only need certification....

No AF you're mixing it up. Win7 comes with IE, but you can completely uninstall it, which I did cause I was curious, but many applications use the IE rendering system for things other than browsing the web, which makes removing it a not so awesome idea.
The steam my games list for example.

in Windows 8 they will replace everything with other companies products, for example when you install Windows 8, you can choose linux, mac, or whatever you want, because its not fair for others to have such popular OS alone! *cry*
Also Windows 8 will have google ads on the taskbar and the profits will be divided with all these big companies out there. Because its not FAIR for only MS get the profits.
Also the microsoft.com will be banned from the internet because mozilla organization claims microsoft is using their monopoly status to ensure high amount of pageviews which twists the traffic statistics and therefore gives too high score for MS, google agrees, so does EU, and microsoft.com will be shared with google and mozilla. also they will kill bill gates because 98.5% of people at linux fansites hates him regarding to a poll they made up, EU agrees again and bill gates will be hanged on the street, kids will play with his head after its cut off.

Ha, that's the last thing Microsoft will do. They were forcing all other companies out of the competition a long time ago and they were forced to let other companies get up a bit on the competition because it was driving so many employees out of work.TradeMark wrote:in Windows 8 they will replace everything with other companies products, for example when you install Windows 8, you can choose linux, mac, or whatever you want, because its not fair for others to have such popular OS alone! *cry*
Microsoft will take any chance they get to destroy companies! :D
