Spring Bugfix 0.79.1 released

Post by Auswaschbar »

Because some bugs in 0.79.0 could not be fixed without breaking sync, we wrapped up another bugfix release 0.79.1 to address most of the issues:
  • fix crash when a direct-controlled unit dies
  • fix watching of demos
  • various AI-related fixes
  • SetUnitShieldState fixed
  • fix an infinite memory allocation loop on startup
  • restore acceptable framerate on vey old cards
The changelog: http://springrts.com/dl/changelog.new

We hope we ruled out all the annoying bugs, so you can have more fun playing.

FYI - to cure the current lag problem, compile your dedicated server from master. It was fixed just after the 0.79.1 release.

However, the crash about tracked units in FPS camera remains.

The RAI crash bug is still present from 0.79.0.0 and all since as far as I know:

0.79.1.0 = http://pastebin.com/d29bb2ca3
0.79.1.0 MT = http://pastebin.com/d2a7a6cbd

Lots of RAI bots will crash the MT client within a minute or two. The regular client can go for a half hour or so but it still crashes eventually if you keep the sides even enough that there are no quick victories. This has been the same throughout the 0.79.x.x builds for me. Both regular and MT .0, .1, .2, behaved the same. To recreate load up a large map like Nation and fill all the starting positions with RAI bots and spectate.

Using entirely KAIK does not crash that I have seen. A mix of KAIK and RAI will also crash if the game plays out long enough (sometimes an hour or more).

If your gonna release another patch plz make sure builddistance is not bugged..
ATM 31/05 it is impossible to make builddistance uder a certain value.I think it has to be over 128..
Plz fix this since it breaks almost all mods.

It would be great if you could release it as soon as possible since i can't release my mod cause of this bug.

Only if by "all mods" you actually mean: "One unreleased wip gadget for S.A.".

No, he means that the unitdefs in BA don't quite reflect the actual build ranges.

Further testing has AAI and KAIK crashing as well.

AAI mixed with KAIK crashed immediately on game start:

KAIK alone managed to build up to a very large battle:

Hi, can anybody tell me why my antivirus NOD32 reports there's a trojan in the install file(Win32/Genetik)? Is anybody else experiencing this?

I'm not installing this thing till the message goes away...

it won't. your antivirus is broken, it detects that the installer has code to download stuff from the internet.

Grab the portable zip that doesn't have this particular download code in it.

And wanting such a message to go away isn't the best plan. You should use an online multiscanner.

@Societal
thanks for all the reports.. the problem is, i can not currently use AI crash related stack traces, as i have no working way of translating them.
the problem seems to be a bug in MinGWs addr2line, at least this is our best guess so far.
currently, the only way for me to hunt AI bugs, is trying to reproduce them on my linux box wiht a debug build of spring.
if yo uhave the willpower to do this yourself (can also be done on windows), and give me the backtraces with source code line numbers, that would help. or if you are interested, you can try to fix things yourself and submit patches.

So is there no way to debug with Win32? I've never used a debugger so my knowledge is literally limited to knowing that the -g switch exists with various options I don't understand :roll: I do already have mingw32 (gcc 3.4.5) , Dev-C++, and MSYS installed so I can try the instructions in the compilation thread and see if I'm even competent to build Spring. :oops:
