cheating

Just be careful is all I have to say. I seen the actual unit hack work in TA (hell, I was on the receiving end). So don't say its impossible. I am not sure on how the guy did it, but he did (he was a unit maker). I can't say any of the details because I don't know them.
So if Spring reads the files the same without adding some sort of extra check, it is very possible to happen again.
Most of the people that play TA has been playing it for years (like myself. TA is a damn drug) :D
For all I know, he can be playing spring doing the same dirty trick, just under a new name and attitude....

yeah... but you arn't going to check every-game... sure for tourneys we should do it that way but in the long run a simple checksum or whatever of all the files used (poll as the spring engine is starting and post when connecting to the server) to make sure people are being honest in everyday games... no matter how much you say it, it's fun to win no matter how you do it some days... and some people have those kind of days a lot and ruin things for other people...
I think the biggest thing in spring is screencheating, I've found in someof my replays ppl who were dead and turned to specs would help theyre allies. That reaaly bugs me when an enemy knows everything. And its sad because i caught a silverstar doing it, I don't considerhim one, and i don't think hes good enough to be one, so i basically refuse to play with him. Unit hacks are odd, Im willing to bet theres a way to access the c onsole without other teams seeeing what you are doing, and if so a player could easily without hacking cheat, ex add 50 krog.
replay files aint the same from client to client.. im talking about replays of the same game.
thats bc.. wait a minute.. i dont know why is that.. but has something to do with.. the fact.. that replays are the network data that was colected during the actual game.. sometimes packets may get lost. or something like that.
the fact is, the replay that belongs to the host, has more data on it. (sometimes a lot more).

How exactly did someone screencheat from spec? There is no way to PM players once you are spectator, A: only feeds to spectators and not active players. Also, drawings and added objective points don't show up for non specs. I think they can erase player's drawing however :>chrono wrote:I think the biggest thing in spring is screencheating, I've found in someof my replays ppl who were dead and turned to specs would help theyre allies. Conceiveably you could screencheat with an ally over ventrillo or teamspeak, but there is no way you could have caught someone doing that via demo, you would have to know who they are and what vent they were sharing.
I noticed people doing that, too.
Sure, it doesnt hurt, but it shows that those people are
a) assholes because they try it
and
b) idiots because they dont notice they dont get responses when they mark their targets
i once saw that on a 2vs2 on metal-isles, a booted player marked every single fusion, antinuke and lurking sub on the map for his teammate...

I've seen it done too... Someone got pissed off with the way they got killed. All it really did was annoy the other spectators who were too much of assholes to let the guy know he was being retarded. I still uphold however that I was in the moral right witholding that information and laughing my ass off.IMSabbel wrote:I noticed people doing that, too.

If a spectating player uses a: chat it doesn't show up to anyone... because ALL spectation players see all a: chat however they can see the players chat as if they were allied to him. However, no playing characters can see any s: chat or a: chat coming from spectators. Also, like I said, drawings and points added by spectators can only be seen by other spectators.chrono wrote:HUH? i know specs can talk to only specs with s: but i thought thta if they werent initially a spec they could use a: to talk to their allies or draw, but i could easily be wrokng, or maybe thta was on an oilder version, im not sure.
I've tested it a couple times out of curiosity, it definately doesn't work. It hasn't worked for several vesrions acctually... I don't remember the last version it did work in.

That exists, or existed in some earlier version. But i don't remember which one is it and the only person i've only, ever, saw using it was SJ. Nobody else seems to know which one is it or that it even exists.BadMan wrote:... I think Spring should only enable Specs to chat with other specs. Or have it as a hosting option (Spec chat) so we don't get any lamers to lame it up.
.mute command
I think a better approach would be to be default allow specs to do anything - draw lines, talk, add signs, whatever. But let any player silence any spec permananently whenever they see fit. Spec is misbehaving? Silence the spec. They're stuck in spec-chat-only mode afterwards.
