Need some help with springinfo

Post by Forboding Angel »

Basically, many of the help pages are getting kinda outdated, singleplayer and multiplayer for example. Could I get someone willing to update them a bit?

I could care less how the content gets to me, you could do it in a forum post here, notepad, whatever, but the long and short of it is that I am utterly swamped with work and RL (I have an insane backlog of units to get ingame in Evo << If I haven't gotten those done then it's obvious that something is going on O_O).

Also, It seems to make sense to me to have a page that will link directly to springguides. Regardless, I'm crazy busy and I really need help, hell I haven't even been able to keep the news stuff updated (which is REALLY frustrating :-/ ). Halp pls?

You don't have to become dedicated staff or anything, it's no big deal, but maintaining the entire site by myself is a job bigger than I can really handle atm. If it doesn't get done, well it doesn't get done, I'll get to it when I can. It's not like stuff is about to go under, but it's getting to the point where I look at it and cringe while thinking of all I need to get done.

How to use Singleplayer mode in Spring

There is a program that is included with the Spring installer called ÔÇ£SpringSP.exeÔÇØ. It is placed in your main Spring folder (where you installed Spring). Unfortunately at this time there is no shortcut to it via Start > Program Files.

Using SpringSP is pretty easy, however there are some things you should know. Not all mappers use correct settings for start position. As a result on particular maps you might end up right next to your AI Opponent resulting in a fairly short game.

Using what is called startboxes is the best method of playing against an AI Opponent. Unfortunately the downside of startboxes is that the AIÔÇÖs themselves are incapable of setting their own start locations. To correct this, when you have started the game, before you place your own start point, you will need to type ÔÇ£.cheatÔÇØ (no quotes). This will activate cheat mode. While in cheat mode you can join other teams by typing ÔÇ£.team [teamnumber]ÔÇ£. So in the case of you VS 1 AI, you would want to type ÔÇ£.team 1ÔÇ│. Once you are on the AI Opponents team, you will need to click a start location for them and click ÔÇ£ReadyÔÇØ. When you have done this, switch back to your own team by typing ÔÇ£.team 0ÔÇ│ (the host of the game is ALWAYS team 0), click a start point for yourself and click ÔÇ£ReadyÔÇØ.

At this point and time, campaign missions in singleplayer are not very well supported. We are hoping that that will change in the future.

It is also worth mentioning that you can also use singleplayer through the multiplayer lobbies. Some multiplayer lobbies support singleplayer better than others. At the moment, the Lobby that is included with spring is called TASClient.

If you start tasclient and click ÔÇ£Host BattleÔÇØ, at the bottom of the battle hosting screen is a button labeled ÔÇ£Add BotÔÇØ. You will need to set the side, ID and Team of each bot that you add. The other really cool feature here is the fact that you and your friends can have what is known as a ÔÇ£CompStompÔÇØ, where you and your friends just beat up on computer opponents, and in some Games is extremely fun.

The same rules for SpringSP also apply here. If you use startboxes, you will need to set the bot start positions for them. Additionally, you may use the command ÔÇ£/infoÔÇØ ingame to show TeamNames, and TeamID (TeamNumber).

You may want to read up on the AI section to learn which bots are good at what games, and can adapt fairly well the new ones.

^^ That is what is there currently. I would appreciate it if you could adapt it for springlobby, same for the multiplayer section really. Those are the most glaring things that need to be rewritten.

Screenshots would be nice, but they aren't particularly necessary.

One of the main criticisms I could levy against springinfo is the lack of visual imagery, and phpbb is nowhere near as capable as wordpress of doing that. Images are very important, if only to make the text you've written more readable and friendly looking.

Most of the guides have a lot of imagery: http://springinfo.info/guides/

You're saying that that isn't enough or talking about the homepage of Springinfo.info itself?

He's talking about the individual pages used on springinfo.

Dude, I mentioned a forum post with images because then I can just copy paste, re-arrainge the images and call it a day.

Keep in mind, springinfo exists pretty much with little help from anyone else besides myself. The community news forum has been really nice, but I have a life and my own business to run, not to mention various projects to do.

I tried to set springinfo up so that everyone in the community could help run it, but there is no interest from the people around here to help much, so there ya go. But I figured if I could make it easy like "Hey just make a forum post" then people are more inclined to lend a hand.

Granted them doing it on the site itself would actually be easier and faster for anyone, some people see a text box and go "O shitz!". It's the way stuff goes. I'm used to it by now.
