Re: Spring's Player Stats / Peak Hours
Springinfo is still reporting between 3500 and 4000 hits. It had dipped down a lot (2500 - 3500) in periods where I don't post anything, but I'm busy a lot of the time, so I tend to post in batches.

I really like springinfo's 3D tag cloud.
It's to other 2D tagclouds like Spring to TA.

Re: Spring's Player Stats / Peak Hours
would be really great to see where these new players came from. is there an increase in a special mod, country, timezone? i cant read it out of the charts that detailed...

Also people got better computers since then. Playing a laggy game is really annoying.BlueTemplar wrote:If you look at the number of players, we have now almost the same number of players in 1vs1, 3-8 players, 9-12 players, and 13-16 players games, with 3-8 and 9-12 player games slightly more popular.
13-16 games were seldom played before november-december 2008, which is interesting because it correlates with the increase of the player base. Did most of the new players went to play these games?
Greenfields lost a lot of popularity :)

I didn't interpret it like that. Tell me if i'm wrong, but if a newbie ranked guy stays around for even only 1 week, he won't be a newbie anymore. So what this graph is saying for me is that we have a steady newbie increasing rate, not great but still somethingBeherith wrote:But our noob retention rate is still horrible
Re: Spring's Player Stats / Peak Hours
There is a disproportionately small amount of rank two players, hence the retention rate is low.[LBF]Vache wrote:I didn't interpret it like that. Re: Spring's Player Stats / Peak Hours
I don't see that many newbie (1chevron) players in games.

Why? They can't be all using TASCLient for singleplayer, since there's not that many of them.

So they are mostly playing single player and 1vs1? (Which IMHO would be good, and going somewhat against the common knowledge that DSD is newbie-land).
A problem is that the first graph doesn't tell us if it's players IN GAME, or just connected players. So it might be that many newly registered players don't actually play a game.

Playing bots leads to bad habits thus I suggest newbies just throw themselves into team games. I also suggest avoiding metal maps at first since it leads to more bad habits. Greenfields isn't such a terrible idea, just cause it will teach you how to build an exponential metal maker economy pretty quickly.BlueTemplar wrote:So they are mostly playing single player and 1vs1? Learning how to build a massive metal maker economy is the key to winning the economy war, without which you'll never be successful in Spring. The guy with the biggest economy wins 90% of the time or more.
Re: Spring's Player Stats / Peak Hours
t1 mm economy sucks ass. And spamming t2 econ is hardly the most crucial thing a newb should learn - usually (s)he won't get there anyway... Though I don't know if it gets there on greenfields either, I don't play greenfields... And t1 mm economy sucks ass.el_matarife wrote:Learning how to build a massive metal maker economy is the key to winning the economy war, without which you'll never be successful in Spring. Expanding is the first thing to learn... Taking mexes, fighting.

i disagree.el_matarife wrote:Learning how to build a massive metal maker economy is the key to winning the economy war, without which you'll never be successful in Spring. The guy with the biggest economy wins 90% of the time or more.
-greenfields build orders are unique, just like speedmetal build orders, and they are good for their respective maps and have few things that can be applied to regular map build orders
-noobs don't have the depth of knowledge to understand how to correctly apply those parts of a greenfields/speedmetal build order to a normal map build order; infact, they are likely to get raped within minutes until they drastically alter their build orders and learn how to boypush / cap mex
-the biggest economy achieved in regular maps is primarily due to mex expansion and metal reclaiming until ~10 or 15 minutes. mm's only become priority in either porcy maps, low metal from 8v8, or games that last longer than 20/25 minutes.

I disagree too. The majority of Spring games don't have metal maker economies.el_matarife wrote:Learning how to build a massive metal maker economy is the key to winning the economy war, without which you'll never be successful in Spring.
