Bad CPU problems

Post by Baladin »

I doubt this is a Spring problem but id like some information on what i could do anyway. Basically when i play spring and the tiniest hint of action arises my fps goes to shit, i checked my processes and i cant find anything running in the background but still my CPU is maxed, i know it cant be that bad as beforehand about 4 months ago my PC could handle spring fine on High settings and now, even on low settings, my cpu shoots up to 60%+ whilst playing spring.

I have a similar problem but I have no idea what the cause is.

I randomly get short CPU spikes that last around 20-30 seconds where my CPU literally dies and game freezes, and nothing happens. Then I get unsync error and then about 20 seconds later I'm back, synced in and fine.

No idea what causes it cause I can't go to Processes tab or anything cause CPU is dead :<

I don't know if it's the same cause, but I too did have horrendous fps this evening... Tried single player, and it was around 10-15 even then when nothing was happening, and much worse on the team game before that. And a few hours earlier, it was all working good.

Edit: now I get good fps again... dunno what did it.

I have the same symptoms on my machine. It is Windows XP 64 on Athlon XP 4000+

I've tried to disable all non-essential processes and lua widgets, it helped a little, but did not make the problem go away completely.
Today Ill check if I have same symptoms when running Ubuntu.

Then i play CA (imho one of the 3 last testversions) and now i have

With NOTA156 or MA11 or S44 no game freeze .. so it musst imho

try fisrt
/luaui disable

and measure fps with B key. If u have decent fps now, then it might be some hungry widget related. On old 3000 amd iceui killed my fps in half.. with new cpu its not a problem.

Hi,

i think we mixed two problems.
The one i have is the same that have JAZCASH.
The Game runs fine and smoth,no problems (and this is from the beginning of the game, imho max 30-50 units at this time) and then
it shutters and freeze complete for 10-60sec .. then the sync get red
and then all is going normal again ....

The other is low fps in the game, i have no low fps, the game runs fine or freeze full.

My fps is normally stable around 60 (AAx8 1400x1050 generally mid settings).

I've observer graphs in "B" mode, and it seems that sometimes without apparent reason engine is getting somekind of hiccup. Normally CPU usage is more or less flat with spikes on slowupdate. But sometimes it starts to climb waaay up and back down for a few moments. The games practically stops then (I primarly play against RAI). Tried to pinpoint CPU hungry widget with profiler but got no luck with that.

Yesterday I installed Ubuntu. When I first run Spring it was flawless, smooth game without any issues (CA 4460test or sth). But then I changed some options (enabled shadows and fancy blinky units) and game started to missbehave. What's worse, returning to default settings did not help 0_o.

Unfortunatelly after reset my motherboard died so I couldn't check if reloading system helps.

Next step I would like to try is to run game in windows with max priority set.

Will update on any findings.

Don't measure FPS with the B key since the hit spheres displayed will eat CPU.
Use /fps instead.

the only times I've had the game freeze periodically were fixed by setting spring's affinity to a single core.

Very true. And the display isn't entirely free, either.

Hi,

have last night a long game played with NOTA156 and one short
with XTA958 - both without problems.
Then i DL (over springDL) the last CA test version and here it frezes
the game/system ...(havent testet the new BA , but with BA691
it frezes too).
So the problem is (for me) only in BA + CA mod.
(maybe LUPS ?)
