Can't download mods or maps! help!

I'm a noob to spring and i would like to play a game over the internet but when i try joining it says i need to download a mod. I am given the option to download, i click yes, and it says you can view the progress in the download tab, I go there and there are no files downloading at all. I can download mods/maps in windows version of spring but not the on linux version. I'm using ubuntu 8.10, please help.

make sure that in the tab it says connected, sometimes the p2p tracker server has downtimes, in the meantime you can download filex manually from http://spring.jobjol.nl

i got the mod i want to add but i can't find ".spring" folder to add it to. I can find a "spring" folder that has "AI" folder in it. I tried to make a folder in "spring" folder for the mod (i don't have the "mods" or "maps' folders) but i don't have the permission to make a folder to add the mod into that. I'm still in the same account i installed the game with and that's the only account on the pc. Yes the download tab does say it's connected.

If there is no ".spring" folder in your home then create one and make a folder in it called mods and add away.

okay i finally figured it out. The ".spring" folder was hidden so i couldn't see it until i pressed CTRL+H to view hidden files and folder. I have gotten spring to work now with the mods and maps i downloaded from http://spring.jobjol.nl. But when i join a game the chat screen is black and i can't see the text. It might just be a linux bug not fixed yet or something but thanks for your help.

I updated the lobby with the ubuntu software updater thing but i still can't see any text. The chat screen is still black

You didin't know ".folder" are hidden? Are you new to linux by any chance? (i am just curious)

yes i am new to linux and but i do know little about it. i'm still learning what there is in linux like hidden folders.

Don't worry we are always knew to things at some point, took me a while to figure out it was hidden originally, i also argued to have a folder not hidden for it to stop these kind of problems, but no i was shot down...and we still have the problems...

But anyway glad you figured it out.

For the lobby if you constantly get a black screen that i would submit a bug report for springlobby.
