The admin asked, the crowed voted: They wanted their emmanuel back. Yep, democracy sucks when it's against you.

I have a certain amount of sympathy (I realise I am not a good role model) but seriously

Also people throw around "troll" way too much. Trolling does not mean what you are using it to mean.

@zwzsg's post:

Why did we vote about that, why not just let the mods decide?

You'd have complained either way, if it was the wrong result.

A lot of the users of spring have around or over 1000h ingame. That's a hell of a lot of gaming time, especially i you count the overhead (waiting for games). I would venture so far as to say that people who spent 1000 hours of their life in 1-2-3 years playing a computer game may not be the most social or accessible people. Shit, 1000 hours is more than 1 month of 24-7 playing.

he was crapshooting on that comment about people's social lives. There are tons of people who game and have a social life. It was just a tacky cliche thing to say. Don't let it get to you.

Smoth, we love you here - your work is awesome.

But every third post of yours is either BAWWW or trolling.

Personally, I don't give a crap - every game forum I've ever seen is full of this kind of pandemonium. The only people who bother me are the ones who contribute nothing but completely inscrutable mayhem (one of which is so severe that he's pushed me to learn about the "ignore" feature in the Spring forum).

This is the internet. Ultimately, the best way to deal with it is just to keep a thick skin and accept that moderators are going to do what they have to do to keep the signal/noise ratio down, and that if they don't you're going to have to slog through a lot of pointless crap to find what you're looking for.

I honestly do disagree though, I find many people yourself included do have a somewhat slanted view of me. It took the trolls at whole year to change tactics on me. I think a lot of people here still think I am the same raging person that I was 3 years ago.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Smoth has done more for the community than you will ever do. The majority of his posts are contributing. Even though he does occasionally "spew abuse", usually most others agree. Everybody is entitled to their opinion, and it seems you and a few other guys just can't understand that. Leave him out of it.

This is the Spring Engine Project. The main focus is the game itself. The forums simply allow for devs and users to communicate, share and debate stuff. Not many people really care if some posts are made of no particular relevance, as long as it doesn't halt production of some useful feature such as a new mod. In short, the forums are not part of the ride but for those who can take abuse, they're an added extra ^_^

Now I'm going to rant about sensitive people.

I hate sensitive people. They are usually of the noob majority and can't understand the goals and ways of communities. They have no idea what is going on, but have the tendency to hate upon people who they know nothing about. They like to express their anger in a gay sort of manner and then when they realize everybody hates them and they receive a load of abuse back, they cry, whine and state how nasty people are.

The forums are doing their job and we're getting all we can out of them. If people want to make pointless topics, they usually do it in the off-topic forum.

Spring is a geeky mans game. If you're neither geeky or a man I suggest you leave.

I think I'm going to lock this, as by whatever definition of 'out of hand' one may have, it is either nearing, at, or past that point. The OP was an ok post individually but it obviously went downhill from there. When you (this pronoun referring to the reader in general) have a problem with the behaviour of a particular user, talk to the user and then the moderation team (preferably going up the chain of command from a lowly wielder of the banhammer like myself and then moving on to Swift if you are particularly dissatisfied with the former) in private. Public slamfests like the middle section of this thread always prove to be detrimental in general.

If you feel you have something hugely enlightening that would vastly improve the forum to post here, PM me/another mod (or abuse mod privileges by simply continuing the discussion through the lock :P).
