another good tagling could see the battle from any angle you choose, even take direct control of units... and it would be a shot of a missle fireing plane (rapier prrolly) soaring in and shooting something... also a montage of explosions with a tagling about deformable terrain... or something... push the differences, ya'know?
we here are in a unique position that spring has tonnes of features most rts' dont have or only have a small number in comparison.
For example FPS mode on a unit, that puts spring in league with only a handful fo other RTS's, 4 camera modes? OTA compatability menaing a huge mod base already here? Regular updates? We could go on for a while but we can easily overwhelm new people with features so they think this game must eb amazing, which is enough to get them to try it.
However I suggestwe add the ability for spring to use CC and AOE style resourcing structures aswell as the Christaylor TA resource system, and create a mod based on it, as numerous people I've met sid they tried TA but they didnt like it, mainyl cus they werent used to the reosurcing system so they put it down after the first go. Though I say they be fools.

The lobby client server? If it's anything like a standard IRC server it should be able to sustain alot more then 60 players at once.el_muchacho wrote:Before trying to attract thousands of players, it would be interesting to know how many players at once can the server sustain without slowing down everything, i.e bandwidth and server load limitations.
I think 60 players at once is not too bad imho.
oh man, I have a friend who loved TA, but didn't play Spring because the metal was weird. Heh, now that I'm used to Spring, I can't go back =).Alantai Firestar wrote:...However I suggestwe add the ability for spring to use CC and AOE style resourcing structures aswell as the Christaylor TA resource system, and create a mod based on it, as numerous people I've met sid they tried TA but they didnt like it, mainyl cus they werent used to the reosurcing system so they put it down after the first go. Man TA's Resourcing is ausome... though another really cool kind of resourcing is Black&White... people collect wood to a central store and then have to move this wood to a building that's getting built (or cut down more trees neer the build site) meanwhile other resources (prayer) is used to define the buildings and produce wood... not direcly convertable to a proper RTS but a novel concept...
Totally off topic of the whole discussion, but oh well.
Ability to define resource names in mod files would be good. Then, you could make a basic AoE style resource collection system. eg:
Energy renamed to wood. You get 'wood' from 'chopping' (reclaming) down trees.
Metal renamed to food. You 'plant' farms on 'fertile' (metal rich) spots, to grow food.
The you could have the lvl2 farms, and Greenhouses to grow more trees. Unless you wanted a limited resource system like in AoE, so the trees run out eventually. But things like this would be handy.
On topic again, the general concensus appears to be that a video would be good, but a few improvments need to take place before it is feasable. So for now how bout we throw ideas around untill these improvments are made? Some one summarise them all into a big post, or into the wiki. Make for easier reference.

Well, for whoever is doing the video, we should get some demos from our very own players. Maybe like 10 demos of intense sea battles, 10 of air, 10 of land and a special demo of just a krogoth war or something.
Then we shrink down our res to 800x600 or whatever and take some snipets of video there and we can compile it, edit it, add in logos, even an announcer like in UT to rile people up.
But anyway, I do have some good sea battles if you want the dem for the video. That way you don't have to do everything yourself. We can all pitch in because we love TA and we love Spring.

Nah, I don't know that, I just figured it probably was similar since most of the proticals it uses are the same. It could be totally different.el_muchacho wrote:I just figured how stupid my concern was.SwiftSpear wrote:The lobby client server?
