how do i play spring?

I downloaded the first thing for microsoft. then i ran the program, and i couldnt play single player or anything? wtf? can somone help me please. this looks like a really fun game, i know it is cuz i i love TA.

Okay, bear with me here, I may be oversimplifying this a bit:

- open 'my computer'
- click the drive you installed spring on (usually C )
- navigate to 'program files', then to 'Spring'
- now, look in your spring folder. If you have a program called 'TASclient' or 'springlobby,' run it.
- tell us the results

Spring is just the engine. You also need to install games and maps to play games. You can find everything you need here: http://spring.jobjol.nl/subcategory.php?id=1

There are also many lua scripts and AI's as well. the lua widgets help improve gameplay, some special effects, and much more. AI's can be used to play by yourself, however they are mod-specific. RAI is generally quite good at a number of mods, and is the only one compatible with CA (complete annihilation). AAI and KAIK are quite good for other BA derivatives.

Alternatively, there is a program called SpringDownloader, which can automatically download mods/maps for you, if you get it up and running (and the server is also up). There is even a module for downloading widgets as well. (AI's have to be downloaded/installed manually however)

Just to keep in mind: you must have the mod to join games, but you can download the maps while you wait for the game to start (so don't worry about downloading huge terabytes of available maps)

there is no real singleplayer like the campaign which TA had. spring is mainly focused on online battles. If you want to play something similar to the good old TA i suggest you try Balanced Annihilation 6.81 http://spring-portal.com/index.php/docm ... ation-v681

Check out Hardcore Annihilation. It's pretty much a straight rip of TA made to work in spring.

if you are using springlobby there is a tab named single player, that should work well. Choose an ai that is not the default ai.

scorcher214, there are 3 AIs bundled with Spring installer. I hope you've installed all of them.

If you choose AAI (at lobby), you have to create some folders which absent (consider reading AAI's readme for folder structure). AAI will not create them but crash Spring :)

Others AI should be fine. KAIK is very hard, but it is unable to play water maps AT ALL. Also it builds too much units & your comp will soon die with 1-6 FPS (if you're not dead by this time).

Kaik rocks. It's the best ai, I pwn it though, just don't rush becaus if you do it will be too easy for you, it's also pretty agressive, if you porc in a bit and start expanding after 10-15 minutes you'll notice that it has built mexes everywhere.

And finaly, which camera mode do you use? A friend of mine is using Rotated overhead, but i don't get it, i am more used toa a camera style of Supreme Commander.

Well, it's medium i think. I beat it yesterday with Bertas, Pelicans & Browlers on hover-type map. I played HA for the first time & start on breaks so allowed him to expand :) (PS. I think i'm a lame player cause i like to watch battles instead of making intensive managing)

I'm using overhead mode. But i adjust it a little to top by holding CTRL + mouse wheelscroll.
