Games worth playing

Post by MajorMayhem »

I would just like to mentioin I have been playing 3 games lately that are just awesome for the money in my opinion. The first is Silent Hunter 3 I got it and SH2 for 10 bucks. I come from the oldskool of DOS gaming and sub games like silent service used to be my favorites. They sure have come along way. I know SH4 is out and it is looks awesome but I hadn't played a good sub game in so long and the first one I got my feet wet with again was SH3. Really awesome game, great atmosphere.

Next I would like to mention Sturmovik IL-2 1946. Wow, absolutely "the" best WW2 flight sim I have ever seen. Probably the best fight sim in general I have ever seen. The dogfighting and damage physics are unmatched. I got it for 10 buck at the UBISoft online store. Worth 3 or 4 times that.

Lastly I would like to mention UFO Afterlight with the total rebalancing mod. One of the most addictive games I have played in a long time. Tons of content, great story and atmosphere and superb graphics make this one of my favorite squad based tactical strategy games. Some may argue that most all battles turn out more like a showdown at the OK Coral but when fighting on Mars that sort of cowboy gunfight just feels like it fits for some reason. Maybe it has something to do with memory of the Iron Maiden album cover for Stranger in a Strange Land http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Stran ... e_Land.jpg donno may just be me. Although I don't ever remember the Duke using rocket launcher and miniguns, maybe the occasional hand grenade in The Green Berets and The Sands of Iwo Jima, great game worth a look. Also 10 buck at Gamestop.

Just needed to throw that out there.

I have IL-2 Sturmovik (AE+PF+FB) and I agree with you. I don't have 1946 though, it just seemed too far-fetched (wish I got the PE-2 add-on though). My favourite plane is the La-7 with 3 B-30 cannons.

I'm not sure what you mean by "far-fetched" is it supposed to be some alternate take on history. I'm glad you share my sentiment, it's a best. The pacific fighters is awesome with the carrier deployments. It amazed me that there are not more combat flight sims that contain all aspects of ww2. Like dive bombing attacks on battleships. I havent' checked yet as I only just got the game but can you do torpedo attacks too. I hate so say this but I really like the IL-2. I had never heard of it before this game but wow what a tuff plane. I can see why it is legend because it is basically a flying tank. Tons of firepower too. The other day I took like 20 hits of bursts with and and part of my wing was missing. I was still fighting and flying just fine though. It's like the oldskool of the A-10 Thunderbolt.

do them like this:

Code: Select all

http://whateverurl.com
If you click the URL button on the forums it will make the tags for you, so you can just ctrl-v twice.

Just posting the URL causes the forum to break the hyperlink when the post is edited.
