for something with so few colors I would greyscale it and use a gif.
Re: MidKnight's Models! (new: Rapier (or Raven :/))
that too... but grayscale makes the graph paper outlines and the sketches indistinct. I'll try it next time, though, and if it doesn't work, PNG!!11!!!1!smoth wrote:for something with so few colors I would greyscale it and use a gif.

Can I has cookie??
And, I don't really like the fan either. Perhaps if you moved it into the middle rather than hanging off the back like that and left the aux thrusters for added speed, or just cut it off and made the back a bit wider, as well as elevating the rear bit on the y axis for coolness. I'm by no account fantastic at design though. Scribbles nonetheless:

you forgot to hit the smoth button
is that a tennis racket in the rear?
Re: MidKnight's Models! (new: Rapier (or Raven :/))
Improvement but too top heavy, the fan would have to be running backwards (dragging the gunship down) to balance it.
Also the turret would not be on the top as stated.
It doesnt even need turreting, missiles shoot forward then track out sideways etc.

Takes 'multipurpose' role too seriously.rattle wrote:is that a tennis racket in the rear?

1. There's nothing wrong with doing very simple concept pieces. In fact, if anything, you're over-detailing a lot of them, and should concentrate on doing at least two views (top-down, side-on) with simple forms to get a better idea of how you want things to really look.
2. I agree with the majority, that the gunship concept doesn't work. It's like an unholy marriage between the Y-Wing and the HL2 alien gunship, and the balance feels really bad. Instead of trying to put a lifting device in the tail... try something like a true tail, instead, to balance vs. the weight of the cockpit forward. Remember... IRL, aircraft have to maintain trim, and it's pretty delicate. Aircraft are generally balanced somewhere near the roots of their wings.

@argh's #1: The pic you're most probably commenting on is a glamour sketch I made after making the model. I just did that for fun and for greeble practice/ideas.
The model was actually modeled off of this sketch:

@thebigPK: sorry, but no. and sorry, I meant Bahamut Fury, not zero bahamut
Oops!. that pic is actually an abortive try at aircraft design
. I did have another vehicle from a video game as that aircraft's inspiration, and if you could guess that, you win 2 cookies!
now, onto what I wanted to say:
Raven, Mark II:

I decided to go for 2 fans

firing

minus the boosters (leaving the boosters on was the result of an interesting story (i had hid the boosters, an they showed up again for the final render, then I thought "these actually spruce the model up a bit!" so i tweaked and kept them) your opinions? keep em, toss em, or change them from boosters to large bulbous energy core thingies?
)

wireframe top-down view

At maackey's request: orthographic side view
Also: Saktoth wants me to forgo the turret, and add a missile pod or something instead. What are your opinions? Can anyone think of a way to get a missile pod to fire when the ship is pointed downwards (as in firing mode)? I need suggestions and ideas

to be completely honest... that looks at least as unbalanced as the first one.

I really like the new model in its deployed config. Keep it deployed all the time! It looks neat!
Re: MidKnight's Models! (new: Rapier (or Raven :/))
I am going to say it since you will hear it from others.
penis.
I like the new design but hate the gun on top of the aircraft.

since you appear to be unable to use google or wikipedia to look for images heres some that should help:

im being dead serious now... LEARN HOW AIRCRAFT WORK.

How so? I'm pretty sure two fans at the middle-front and 3 jet boosters in the back balance it out well enoughPressure Line wrote:to be completely honest... that looks at least as unbalanced as the first one.

then how would it move?smokingwreckage wrote:I really like the new model in its deployed config. Keep it deployed all the time! It looks neat!

So does saktoth. Check edit in my last post.smoth wrote:I am going to say it since you will hear it from others.

though personally, i like the idea of top-mounted aircraft guns
EDIT:pressureline, what am I doing wrong?
EDITEDIT: I can't believe you're giving me this as a reference for balancing >_>

you should really take Pressure's advices ...

I would, if I knew what they werejK wrote:you should really take Pressure's advices ...

I've already acted on what he said earlier and made the rapier look slower but more formidable, but what else?
Re: MidKnight's Models! (new: Raven Mark II))
May have a try and modifying your mesh?
Re: MidKnight's Models! (new: Raven Mark II))
He posted tons of images. Take them as a base.MidKnight wrote:I would, if I knew what they were
