TASclient update installs Spring lobby

Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
@Smoth, how do you do that? Can you drag the top-tabs?
Imho, that's the real complaint people have about SpringLobby - it's hard to view the chatbox and the other windows side-by-side. You have to go up to the "chat" tab and then back down to the desired chat window. Imho, the whole "hierarchical tabbing" thing was a bad idea, but it's better than the separate-battle-window of TASClient. If the various chat windows lived in the same tab-list as the browser and battle window, I don't think anybody would complain.
Look at Visual Studio for example - all the tabs live at the same level, and the various buttons for options and what not just spawn a new tab.
That and you need to be able to split out a seperate window rather than just splitting the pane.
Either way, I like SpringLobby. It doesn't have quite the same featureset as TASClient, and has a few usability issues and bugs to work out, but it looks nice, is cross-platform, and has far more open development. Looking forward to seeing where it goes from here.

Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
yeah, like click a tab drag it until it shows a blueish area, then let up.
Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
I prefer the latest version which has a layout editor that doesn't crash and allows me to disable the annoying news bar :PI'm going to upload 0.45 of tasclient for anyone who wants version of taclient which isn't buggy and a version before the annoying news bar.
Also while TASClient has low maintainability, it's probably the most feature rich lobby client we have and it's UI design is way different from SpringLobby's and so it's an alternative that should be maintained.
Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
not saying it shouldn't be maintained but I think springlobby should replace it.
Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
i stop working on tasclient, and without my help i doubt anyone will be able to compile it
good bye
good bye
Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
exactly that is what I mean about difficult to maintain.

Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
I'd use springlobby more if it didn't feel so damned....unrefined. TasClient was like a souffle prepared by a professional chef, Slobby feels like a 16 year old making a good attempt at it, but failing it.

Where the Hell is AF and his BattleHub

Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
Let this be the end of TAS Client.
Out with the [old]Total Annihilation Spring Client[/old] in with the [new]Spring Lobby[/new]

Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
In what way? I like some features of SpringLobby - for one thing, I think it *looks* better than TASC. But, for example, the single-character headers (with no tooltips either) in the multiplayer lobby gridview are an epic failure of usability.[TS]Lollocide wrote:I'd use springlobby more if it didn't feel so damned....unrefined. And of course it has bugs - various spurts and starts and crashes happened to TASC too, SpringLobby is newer and less refined.
But where's the actual, specific complaints?

Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
Well there isn't a specific complaint since I haven't used Springlobby in awhile other than being tricked into installing the fucking thing again, but I find that I just like TasClient more than slobby at first glance and after using it for awhile way back when, TasClient still came out ontop.
And crashes-wise, I never actually encounted a crash from either piece of software, but it seemed that Slobby's bugs either don't produce an error message or simply cause the program to hang for periods of time whereas TasClient had none of those problems.

lol yeah i felt same when i first time opened SL, bad user interface etc, very messed up... I guess its better now when you can change the layout.[TS]Lollocide wrote:I'd use springlobby more if it didn't feel so damned....unrefined.
