Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
Satirik learned it just to maintain TASClient. What we need is some mid-50s guy who decided to stop learning new programming languages in the mid-90s. I suggest we start checking out local colleges, there's plenty of them there teaching programming classes.Hoi wrote:afaik nobody knows delphi.

Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
Let's make new TASClient, with blackjack and hookers!
Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
Here's a quote that probably started this. It's from "TASclient annoyance" topic:
Yes, you (we) have been forced to switch now.==Troy== wrote:I would really prefer to just turn it off rather than figuring out how to fix it.
Please could anyone tell me where can I get an older version of TASclient, or its source code, or how to disable it in the current version.
Or am I forced to switch to springlobby now?

Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
Condensed critiques of Spring Lobby:
1. The tooltip popup on the chat pane that can't be disabled is super annoying.
2. There's no way to change your peform / autojoin settings from the settings tab where you'd expect these settings to be, and SpringLobby can't import TASClient autojoin / perform settings.
3. Trying to load mini-maps and run torrenting in the background of a single threaded application is a SERIOUS mistake and really causes SpringLobby to be unresponsive to user input and appear to be locked up constantly. Either multithread it, or split it into component pieces.

Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
delete TASClient.exe (springlobby) and rename TASClient.exe.old to TASClient.exe, then cancel the update :)
Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
If it's true, it's very childish. Can an admin remove the spring lobby update? Leaving it just means more people will be confused.

Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
Rollback directions:
1. Delete TASClient.exe (springlobby) and rename TASClient.exe.old to TASClient.exe
2. Make sure "Options -> Program tab -> Auto update to current beta" is unchecked
3. When you connect to the lobby, click "no" when it asks if you want to update to current beta.
If you'd prefer an older version of TASClient, FatController has one uploaded here: http://pw3n.net/mirrors/TASClient.exe

Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
My mid 50's computer science teacher at A-Levels had us all learn Turbo Pascal and encouraged us to do our coursework projects in Delphi - however I have no recollection of it at all or desire to revisit it :pel_matarife wrote:Satirik learned it just to maintain TASClient. Also isn't TASClient pretty much finished as long as it can launch a game of Spring i'm happy with it in its current state I don't see the need to force people onto Springlobby (I don't like Springlobby's GUI).
Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
springlobby's GUI can be customized to replicate TASClient'sTheFatController wrote: (I don't like Springlobby's GUI).

I'm surprised you didnt know that
commenting on topic:
This is a very strange thing for satirik to do, esp. without any explanation...
And just ftr, the build that TASC updates to is broken/buggy
Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
SL wont even start for me with my 10gb maps/mods..
Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
I'm surprised you didn't know this isn't true, try splitting SpringLobby into two windows for example... That's just the largest UI difference and there are many others...MidKnight wrote:springlobby's GUI can be customized to replicate TASClient'sTheFatController wrote: (I don't like Springlobby's GUI).![]()

Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
I disabled the self upgrade for now.. even if tasc ends up unmaintained (which i doubt), i think most windows people still prefer it to SL (thats why they are using it and not SL).
If things go bad on next tas server change, I can try doing necessary client changes.

Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
Rollback won't cut it for me. After rename, it allways caches all minimaps, says about lobby/var/tips.txt missing, no singleplayer skins detected and whatnot. It also crashes after connecting to battle complaining about unitsyncer.
So it seems its a reinstall for me. Thanks whoever did this prank.

>_>
<_<
I'm going to give SL a try even though it does seem to hang quite a bit.
The ui is a bit strange too. well anyhow...
Come to think of it, allowing a 14 year-old the privilege to execute code on my computer may have been a stupid move. I'm not touching TASClient with a fucking stick after this. (maybe some tried and true legacy version if SL becomes too much of a hassle)

Re: TASclient update installs Spring lobby
I did a complete reinstall of spring and tasclient still ain't working. Any ideas?
Is there some other location then spring install directory i should wipe out to get this game running again? It still complains about the errors and crashes on error initializing unitsyncer when opening battlewindow.
In the log it says:
[0:49:31] Error writing to cache: lobby\cache\maps\3EFB9299.mini
[0:49:35] An error occured when initializing the scripts.
