Torpedo trouble.

Post by IMSabbel »

Could there be anything be dont to make torpedoes less friendly fire friendly?

Because it seems to me that whenever i use more than a single sub, 75% of the torpedoes hit friendly subs, friendly surface ships or even the subs themselfes... (as they fire backwards while turning, for example and thus hit themself midships...)

Just setting a priming distance for the warhead would be cool. Like "dont detonate closer than 100 units/ 50% of the distance to target/ect" (in that case it would just dud when hitting something).

Watch hunt for red october for clarification what i mean :)

It would be great if the torpedoes could go under friendly/enemy units and still hit their targets.

It would be great if subs were submerged at all sorts of different depths...

Or maybe an option for "high arc" torpedoes.
Like normal sends torpedoes LOS, but "arced" sends them in a somwhat balistic arc that hits the target from below (which of course would only work in deep water)

Extending this you could have depth settings to the subs.

IE just like the high trajectory tag you could have a button choosing if the sub is go as deep as possible or just near the surface.

Going deep it would loose LOS over the surface but it would be more protected from torpedoes and sonars etc.

Besides, It would add some interesting underwater fights with ships on different depths.

How about an either/or: define their cruising depth by distance from surface or distance from bottom?

Or a random point between those two distances....
