Where to download MAX2 ? i cant find it anywhere, i want to try it, played it last time about 10 years ago...
it was good game when i was kid =D not sure will it be so good anymore with upgraded brain capacity...

Same as I thought. I didn't like M.A.X., Master Of Orion and other TBS games except Heroes and civilizations. M.A.X. ... great game.
Here's another free software remake, they are pretty advanced too: http://www.maxthegame.de
I think M.A.X. is at it's best in simultaneous turn-based mode. In real-time you lose the richness of its complex rules, and in regular turn-based it's just too slow.
I still hope somebody will put some framework into Spring for making turn-based games - something not too hackish that will survive the upgrades. A MAX remake with Spring graphics would be great.

Apparently if you wait a few releases you'll be able to play.The resinstaller isn't necessary any more if you can get over some missing sounds, music and video. This release features a free graphic set and is playable even without sound effects (We're looking for a sound artist - you want to contribute? Hire today).
Or you can contribute some sound effects!
Otherwise, I'm sure you'll find M.A.X. (it's MAX 1, not 2) somewhere on a torrent or abandonware site...

yes - MAXreloaded is very nice [and have a save/load too -- WOW ....]
The freeGFX is nice but if you get the orginal gfx you see the difference.
[only 2 units i like more in the free-gfx set]
Bad it is ATM no AI - or i miss something .....
And i played spring most time with 0.2 speed - like turn based games more,
and so it is not to much to doing simultan.One of the best things on spring.
[the full variable speed control]
Played most times JTCS -for hardcore strateg[the best millitary simulation - turn based].
[or like you hardcore simulation SteelBeastPro-PE - the "PersonalEdition" of
the official NATO Tank simulation]
mhhh ... have the needed data [org-gfx + sounds/voice(german)/music] on an
7z. [~100MB]

Here's a link that also has the great in-game videos included.
Don't bother with MAX2 unless you really liked the first one, it's buggy, and the graphics are actually worse. (Which is a shame because it had some great new features like 3D terrain, experience for all units, and alien faction)
A MAX in 3D would be GREAT. (And also a MAX with other people to play against, a MAX that doesn't have games ruined because the AI won't end it's turns anymore, etc...)
But I doubt a RTS-MAX would work - too much micro involved. Unless maybe there was a quck way to warn the player that an enemy unit has been upgraded, and if players could pre-set unit upgrades BEFORE starting the game, then just click a button to upgrade multiple units at a time, or set to automatically upgrade a unit when there's enough gold available.
With enough gui help and automatisation it might be possible - but it would require more work than has been done on all the widgets already made.
BTW, upgrading units in Spring seems so complicated... is this why we see no Research in Spring while almost all the other RTS games have it?
I think that would be something mods like CA would really benefit from. (Making morphing more intuitive would help too)

You change stats of a unit type(already created units of that type have no effect). You destroy one or all units and recreate them in the same state(Angle, HP...).
Complicated?
Making units with different weapons is complicated if not impossible in Spring!
