Why is spring dropping lagging players more?

Post by BaNa »

Who the fuck thought it would be a good idea to make spring hostile towards people with slower pcs? Why am i getting "pause rejected because of high cpu load" messages? YES I AM PAUSING BECAUSE OTHERWISE I WOULD DROP THANK YOU. I hope to god that the braindead coder that implemented this will lag out from every fucking game he plays, if he even plays games.

I usually drop not because im lagging the whole game out, but because i have 1 cpu spike (windows autoplay, virusscan, ect.) and then spring fucking loses it. people should votekick or manually kick if someone is slowing the game down. I bet it wouldn't happen most times, only if someone is constantly in red.

Kill background programs then? Or increase priority of spring.exe?

I have to admit, games tend to lag much less theese days, even huge 16 way FFAs with thousends of units.

Perhaps you should upgrade your comp and stop ruining games for other players.

1. It's a hosting setting to do this.
2. If that cpu spike is anything less than a 20 second total lockup you shouldn't time out.

protip, set virus scanner to only scan files when they are written to the Harddrive. Scanning every file on open is ridiculous.

protip, If you have anything resembling norton on your computer, or mcafee, ur doin it wrong. Maek get avast, and change the above settings.

But seriously... you should never need to do a system wide virus scan if you use firefox+adblock plus + noscript, spybot, and avast.

I might point out that avast has a very very tiny memory footprint.

Well I suppose 100-200 MB with most of its services enabled is 'very very tiny' if you're a vista user...

@hunter... Oh so true.

oh and bana: Start > run > msconfig > Startup Tab ftw. If you dunno what it is, disable it. Feel free to leave the OS registered ones therem but it's generally no biggie as those processes get run when they are needed anyway.

60MB isn't that far off.
On the other hand, 20MB without a 'web scanner' is quite reasonable.

I think it's great now, why should everyone play at 0.5 speed just because one person is playing in a game with more people than their machine can cope with.
If your machine can't handle 8v8, play in smaller games or turn settings down. It's really frustrating when the game slows down or gets jumpy/spikes.

From what I've heard the enforcegamespeed option is well, optional, complain to hosts if if it bothers you so much.

Personally I like it, I haven't seen anyone drop because of it yet, but I have been seeing games running at full speed more lately...
