(Those who do not believe in a supreme being may attribute this to innate social networking abilities, "The Secret" (I've been wanting a new computer so long the Universe found a way for me to have it), or just gal-darned good luck, or Karmic Rebound for working in a call center for 5 years, and then being a good husband and taking the baby at nights so my wife could sleep...I'm sure it's one of those and I happy to give God credit)
Second, God doesn't promise free computers...
Anyways, guy I know from church decided to clean out his basement so I am now the proud owner of a AMD 64bit 3700 series CPU computer with 1.5 GB of RAM(with heat sinks), and an nVidia 128MB 6600 video card with 120GB SATA2 hard-drive in an Premium Alienware Full Tower case... and a pile of other various stuff like a fancy Ergonomic Microsoft Keyboard and a good old 3 button mouse and a second monitor so I can do dual monitor again.
Not the top of the line, mind you, but significantly better then my prior system (which says a lot).
And just last week a friend of mine was cleaning out his appartment and gave me an 8 port 100 megabit switch.
And the church I live next to and attend set up free public wireless access point.
And my best friend moved back to town, and the bus strike ended...
It came with a faulty floppy drive(disconnected now... who needs them with USB boot anyways?) and an undiagnosed spontaneous blue screen problem... but I think the latter was the Creative Audigy 2 sound card it had so I've pulled it out and activated the onboard audio chipset and it seems to have resolved the issue so far.
Also it didn't have a DVD burner so I had to harvest that from my old rig.
Also... did I mention I got a new job and no longer work in a Call Center? I'm developing Database Applications in Access on Short Term Contracts now, which, while there may be naysayers about Access, is actually a programming job... and I dropped out of college after 2 years of failing programming courses.
