Comentated tournaments and real live tourney broadcasts.
My suggestion is to make tournaments, make individual posts about them, allow to broadcast them to the spring community(from a website with adds to help pay for the bandwidth?)and have commentators commentate(the best games or finals),live when possible or after the games and post the commentated replays in the tournaments thread.
I'm guessing there wont be a shortage of commentators or viewers for that matter.
The problem is than bandwidth, website, lobby support and spring support?
Any thoughts by spring devs, lobby devs, people with bandwidth, devs of spring related file hosting websites or anyone else?
This way tournies will have more meaning to them, will become mainstream in the spring community and might serve as good material for spring advertisement.

Re: Comentated tournaments and real live tourney broadcasts.
Originally, when Shift and I decided to commentate games, we did it to raise interest (and hopefully) enlarge the community.
Small games (1v1/2v2) with professional players are so hard to find in the lobby, it's damn near impossible.
Having said that, I think this is a great idea. I really don't think anyone can learn much from a 6v6 other than the basic TA concepts.
Teamwork, scouting, air defense, and paying attention to what's going on.
Having said THAT, in most big DSD battles, I see few players that actually do all or even any of these, which makes me extremely irritated. But that's a different subject.
The point I'm making is that 1v1 and 2v2 games, especially with professionals, makes it a lot more fun to watch and commentate because of the increased level of depth/strategy being used.
If we could get some volunteers, Shift and I would be more than happy to commentate.
Cheers.

Re: Comentated tournaments and real live tourney broadcasts.
There is another option how viable it is i don't know.
There can be tourney autohosts and when a tourney starts all games are played with those autohosts.
The autohosts generate a dynamic replay??
Links of these are thrown into the lobby and people can watch games in almost real time...
Would it also be possible to commentate such games in real time with some cooperation with the autohost??

Sure, if we could get some actual times figured out. Shift and I are generally on all day, or at least we probably could be.

I'm all for this and i might be able to donate some bandwidth. But check on that again next month.
Re: Comentated tournaments and real live tourney broadcasts.
Maybe it can be distributed through many hosts and not just one.

It would be great if someone with technical knowledge related to all this would respond.
Re: Comentated tournaments and real live tourney broadcasts.
No we will commentate any mod that people play. The more the merrier we say because we want to show people just how diverse the Spring community really is!are you planning on commentating only BA ?
(I know, good joke right? But they won't know the truth tee hee hee.)
Obviously we'll probably be doing mostly BA and CA (as those are the most played) but we have no objection to doing other mods, if requested.

request what mod you want commentated, and me and wing will do it :)
Re: Comentated tournaments and real live tourney broadcasts.
In all fairness the commentators need a mod that has been played by them, a lot, otherwise they will dub something bad when it is really good. From aa to ba to ca are a lot of difference. Let alone the other projects. Add to that most of the games that are in the works currently have no finalized version, even after a release then that version will be quickly outdated by an update and balance changes can happen like tornadoes.
As much as I like my project, and would be interested in watching a replay of others I just think that it is too early and it would make sense to do replays of the TA mods.
The only other thing I can think of is EE, EE has been around for some time, hasn't changed in a while and by now most of the old farts around here have played it. Hell even FF might be a good candidate.

Re: Comentated tournaments and real live tourney broadcasts.
I know my way around every mod, that is until i play Gundam, where every unit is the same, just different colours. Tbh, i know just about every mod there is, and im sure wingflier does also. I've been here for a while, and i try every mod that comes out.
ES is also a good mod to play and commentate
I know the ins and outs of kernel panic
Blob wars was awesome.
LOLstarwars mod im familiar with.

I that is my thing spawn, you know them as they were not as they are or will be. There are only a few mods that have stayed the same over the years. EE has been at full stop for a while. You really don't know how stars plays or s44 unless you are in the beta, even then, you have not played very much with the final balance because it has not come yet.

Re: Comentated tournaments and real live tourney broadcasts.
If that's the case then I'm only "qualified" to commentate BA games.
I was basically playing BA 5 years before it came out. Uberhack by Brave Sir Robin. Who, like Caydr, was famous for his disappearing act.
Caydr (pre-abra cadabra) turned UH into AA. Which after 3 years he ported to Spring.
Then when Caydr died of congenital heart failure Noize picked it up and made it BA.
I can say I've had a lot of experience with this mod.
Having said that, if the goal of commentating is to raise interest and hopefully inspire more people to join the community, knowing about the individual mods makes very little difference. Anybody who has played Spring for over a year can look at almost any mod and have a general idea what is happening, at least enough to make it sound fun.
As far as experienced players actually learning from the commentary, that's a completely different story.

Smoth, just shut up and troll somewhere else.smoth wrote:lol no, not for long.Wingflier wrote: Anybody who has played Spring for over a year can look at almost any mod and have a general idea what is happening, at least enough to make it sound fun.
If you're going to come in here and tell us we can't at least try then I will not commentate your mod, so don't worry, i won't mess it up for the 10 people that actually play it.
As much as i like to troll also, i'm trying to make this a serious step forward for spring.
Now i dont like you, nor do you like me, so please, just leave the negative stuff outside.
If its beta, and i cant get to the release then how the heck am i supposed to know what units do what anyway?
OH and just so you know, i was on the beta list for EE for the inclusion of the alien race, so its not like i've never played the mod.
I know i don't play in PRO status, but i can sure as hell talk like one.
I don't think there's a mod out there that me or wing hasn't played, and i could bet that we could commentate it like the developers could.
"Lol no?" you try way to hard smoth, i must say. If you have large experience in spring you can commentate anything, because you know what's a winning strat and what's a losing one.
That's the last time I'm actually going to reply to any of your comments within this thread.
NOIZE: I live in the UK, so you'll be looking at GMT time, and wing lives in the USA. So anything like 6PM-10PM would be fine.
