I mean really... Why do people smurf? Whats there to gain? I am genuinely curious, maybe im missing out on something? There have been a few people posting who have mentioned what i would consider 'good' reasons to smurf (dev/mod anonymity for ex) but Id like to know why the people who smurf do it.

Is this a joke post lol? People smurf so that when teams are auto-balanced, they are put with higher level players; Therefore, giving the team an advantage. Also, people want to start afresh, without people knowing who they are.(Is BaSiC a good example of this?) I hope i have cleared sum of ur curiosity.

I have 2 smurf accounts btw people, but for a totally different reason to what u r all talking about. I purely wanted to make sure no1 would steal the names "Xenocide" and "Deth", incase i ever wanted/needed them =) Sad arent i?

Moderators are moderators, they're gunna either be sucked up to, ignored or hated on.

If you become a moderator don't whine about being harassed or badly treated.
If a moderator is upset by the way players treat him he can just stop moderating.
moderators should be treated with respect when they do their moderating but we all know that there will always be players who harass mods and also specific situations in which moderators make mistakes and will be treated worse cause they are moderators.

I think the problems linked to ranking such as smurf or poeple wanting to make ranking optionnal comes from the fact that the current ranking system is used to balance the game and that another ways should be found.

For exemple, one could all get a standard ranking at the creation on the account then:
- if you win you increase your rank
- if you win the game but that the average rank of your team is far better than the ennemi team one, you almost not increase your rank, you could even decrase if it is totally unbalanced.
- if you win the game but that the average rank of your team is far worst than the ennemi team one, you increase your rank a lot.

One could also add a coefficient for porcing efficiency and damage deal efficiency. For exemple
-Whatever you on or loose the game, If you manage to dealt only few damage with a large metal and energy production, your rank decrease
-Whatever you on or loose the game, If you manage to dealt a lot of damage with few metal and energy production, your rank increase. (encourage micromanaging)
-Whatever you on or loose the game, If you manage to have a big economy growing rate, your rank increase (this must be limited to a certain amount of point, becasue it will be absurde, spring is not simcity, however it is still important because even if you are quit skilled in micromanaging, you cannnot do anything against somone with an eco 10 times larger than yours)

etc,...

This looks like a bit as some ladder ranking systems.
