what RTS should i migrate to

Post by flop »

looking for a new rts to put some time into, spring has gotten pretty barren, and its hard to find a good 1v1. I've tried supcom but it was quite boring and didnt really fit how i like to play. Starcraft is tempting but i've tried it and I fear the learning curve. Also didnt care for wc3. Any suggestions? Would be cool if someone played a game competitively and wanted to teach me the ropes.

I'm not a real competative rts player, but I have Universe at War: Earth Assault and it's a very interesting game to play, if you don't know it you could google it.

Ye, my recommendation would be CoH as well. Graphically stunning with rather intricate / deep gameplay, as my friend puts it.

Are you talking competitively, or just to pick up? I mean, how hardcore do you want to get into the game?

Starcraft's nasty curve is mitigated by the excellent single-player campaign that walks you through it all. Blizzard knows their shiat.

You watch the pros play and it looks pretty similar to the stuff you figure out on your own playing through the campaign, except more precise, greater focus on ranged units (which benefit better from micro), and OMGWTF microing skills without failing to macro their base simultaneously.

I would say red alert 3 because for a commercial rts it really kicks ass

Company of heroes is pretty good and there's several people from spring playing it (steve, me and day, and to some extent kdr too)

Yeah they are finally getting the gameplay right.

Also spring is many rts's. Try a better mod like XTA. There are some cool mods that are supposed to be coming out soon too...........maybe

Sins of a Solar Empire is stupid for competitiveness. Not an intelligent or vibrant enough hardcore raep community.

I'd just wait for SC2 like has been suggested.

War of the Ring. The second version is even prettier than the first one, and quite a bit better of a game, I was quite impressed when I played it with DRB a month ago- first RTS I've seen since Dawn of War that I actually thought was cool.
