Re: Advertising
what the hell does that mean?
Re: Advertising
Picasso essentially said that all this has been discussed before and we have enough dead threads to compile into a single document only fit, in the end, for wiping away excrement. This, of course, because all efforts have failed and most contributors to discussion have never lifted a finger to help anyway.
With a little respect and support, you can expect me to continue some of my advertisement projects, though you're not getting any of the social research I conducted in the early stages - focus groups, surveys, targeted audience exposure, and lo-fi direct advertising. I'm not going to compile my efforts for the perusal of those who have and will merely dismiss it either as bullshit or as irrelevant.
I do not have the time, money or motivation to work as I did before, but I do plan to come back to it. In the meantime, Pintle is all he said he was, I endorse his efforts fully. AF, Argh, the SL team, and factions within the CA team can all be useful as well. Smoth's methods are worthy of investigation; they have been successful to a limited extent.

Re: Advertising
If things were done.than where can we see them?
What exactly did you do except "prepare" for the process of advertising.
I,and im sure many others would enjoy to read about spring or see that it got exposure in some way.
Im sure you have thought it through and have some master plan but im curious as to what exactly the "worthy" people are thinking should be done in order to expose spring and get as many new players as possible.
Are you aiming for programmers in your advertisment efforts?linux users?are you planning to tap into the already existing reservoiers of open source games with theer player communities?wouldn't it be a good idea to at least start by exchanging links with them?that doesn't require any market research or any preperation and surely cant hurt.
Isnt it common sense to think that peopel who already play open source games will have a higher % to like the spring project and perticipate in it as players?

Re: Advertising
If nothing else, I would like to see any research that was conducted, feel free to PM it my way.
I can't say that I won't disagree with the conclusions, given what I've seen when the rubber meets the road, which is that, if marketing is done at ALL, it works... but it'd be useful to have another POV based on something tangible, rather than the opinions of people who aren't actually doing this.

Not to blow my own trumpet in any way, but i am fairly eloquent, and have been lurking this community for some time without making any meaningful contribution.

Re: Advertising
I am good at tricking people into doing things. If i trick people into playing spring, and they like it, they will play it. Problem solved.
Now its up to you to make spring good enough of a game that if you play it you wont stop.
GET TO WORK.

Re: Advertising
When i stumbled onto spring I knew i was gonna be playing a lot of it just by looking at the screenshots on the main page.

Instant Pwn of the whole ThreadGota wrote:When i stumbled onto spring I knew i was gonna be playing a lot of it just by looking at the screenshots on the main page.

Just some simple Pictures to catch those who fly by word of mouth.. So mor Screenshots to the Frontpage...
And let´s forget about Hyping Spring.. such Stuff only workx for Great Companys because they can pay staff who spends Days promoting only & very carefully for months. How many new pictures were there for GTA 4? Or Assasins Creed.. very view.. they were carefully selected, send to Magazines who would do Hypearticles filling Pages without knowing the actuall Game, just promising everything. You can´t do that with Spring, because the Engine is already out there, ready for public Judgment... those Hype(rspacejumps) live from a Ilusion, a whiteScreen were everybody can project the Game he ever desired throw on..
Whatever you dreamed of- Spring has done it!
doesen´t work, because the Map/Modlist is equipped with a Searchfunction... FeatureRequest is hosting a Conspiracy against Add-Threads..
I demand a Informationblackade on SpringChanges.. the next Release is going to be hyped..

It is not just a update, it is not just a new Version. It is not the Re-Release. It is more than Judgment Day. It is Finally Spring!
Advertising Threads.. why do i always fall for these...
