/command and .command equivalent?
cant they be equivalent, so if i type .give it would be same as typing /give? just like it works in the lobby client atm.
Re: /command and .command equivalent?
I don't see what advantage that would have other than causing some minor confusion.
Re: /command and .command equivalent?
huh? that caused more confusion when the commands were changed to /command
i still type .commands in accident >_>

Re: /command and .command equivalent?
fixed by a two line widget?
maybe a depreciation msg that tells you to use / instead so that existing users and new users of with old documentation don't think the software is buggy.

Re: /command and .command equivalent?
Well the .command notation was way more comfortable because now it's a bit close minded and aimed towards those with an US-keyboard layout. For me and I guess most other European layouts too you don't have / as a direct key but have to do e.g. Shift+7 like I have to do. So keeping the .command notation isn't really essential but would be way more comfortable and as Trademark said more uniform i.e. user friendly because of the way the clients handle this...
Re: /command and .command equivalent?
yeah its harder to write it, / = shift+7 as you said...
Re: /command and .command equivalent?
who in their right minds designed a keyboard with / on shift+7?!? I've got / on a normal key which shifts to '?'. i think a widget is in place.

Just go and have a look here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout
In languages which aren't restricted to just A-Z assigning those additional letters as normal keys makes sense and as / is something the majority doesn't use that often it gets integrated as a shift-option...

Re: /command and .command equivalent?
A large amount of European keyboards also have @ as a two key combination, as we all know no one ever uses @. IRC users are also constantly annoyed at having to press two buttons each time they want to type a command.
Oh wait. No, pressing two keys just isn't that inconvenient. How are you typing your capital letters? Also have you ever looked at a web url? Notice how much / is actually being used...
Not two mention all the hotkeys for applications, if you haven't trained yourself to hit two keyboard buttons at the same time without feeling even slightly inconvenienced by it, it's really something you should learn soon.
Pointless rant with little thought put into it, so feel free to just ignore this post as I'm going to go ahead and watch a game now and have no time to re-read it to make sure it doesn't sound entirely as stupid as I think it does.

Re: /command and .command equivalent?
When i write capital letters, i dont need to move my entire hand to reach the button. I dont write URL's, i copypaste them or click from favorites or links, i remember writing URL's with / by hands like once or twice this year.ZellSF wrote:Oh wait. Anyways, how i can get back the old style with lua?
Re: /command and .command equivalent?
Yes, please, just give me the period commands back. I could give myself a test unit before the 3 second starting time was up, now I can't even do /cheat...
Re: /command and .command equivalent?
Is there a benefit to not allowing .command, and is there a reason it was switched to /command in the first place? I can see why . is preferable to / on some layouts but on UK and US they are right next to each other so I don't see why this change was needed to begin with. Anyone care to enlighten me?
Re: /command and .command equivalent?
Using / for commands is pretty standard, using . is not. Just a guess.
Re: /command and .command equivalent?
Pretty standard or most common? I've seen .command, /command and :command, with the only trend being that /command is more common in Windows.
Re: /command and .command equivalent?
Most common. I can't remember a single game where the console has required commands starting with ".", but tons of them starting with "/".
IRC also uses / commands.

Re: /command and .command equivalent?
Hmm, OTA had "." commands, though, those were added by demo recorder...ZellSF wrote:Most common. I can't remember a single game where the console has required commands starting with ".", but tons of them starting with "/".

Re: /command and .command equivalent?
OTA used + commands IIRC.
Re: /command and .command equivalent?
Spring had something to do with the demo recorder, right?
Re: /command and .command equivalent?
