Ok, after applying collisionvolumescale to a unit, the visible sphere as represented by debug mode is clearly smaller, but the hit sphere remains the original size. Now, for clarification, is the collsionsphere / hitsphere the same thing and/or linked?
Next, the refractive water shader likes to crap out randomly sometimes, and it also applies refraction to objects clearly above the water level (even air units). This is visible in that even an air unit's selection box is subject to the effects of refraction.

as a workaround, make a custom ellipsoid.
