0.77b3 mod issues

I have just updated to spring 0.77b3 and now when I try and start a game against the computer the drop down menu does not list any of the installed mods. Starting it from the command line gives the following errors when I click on the mods drop down menu.

10:36:31: GetModOptions ( )
10:36:31: Error: can't open file '.modoptions' (error 2: No such file or directory)
10:36:31: runtime assertion: cache file( .modoptions ) not found
10:36:31: runtime assertion: passing void modname to unitsync
10:36:31: Error: Could not load mod Options

I've tried searching for the error, but didn't find anything, does anyone have any ideas?
