I've managed to play one game to test out the new version of spring, and then when I added some productivity widgets I could not host and got the same error over and over. I reinstalled everything, after moving my maps/mods and deleting the directory, and still got the same error:
A pop up window: spring.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005).
Click OK to terminate the application.
This is the information I get from windows error if it helps...

Re: Cannot start a game
This is probably frivolous, but if you have UAC enabled, did you remember to clear out the Compatibility Files folder associated with Spring before you reinstalled?
Re: Cannot start a game
No, I don't have UAC enabled, it was one of the first things I turned off
