Sounds crackling (solved)

Post by TradeMark »

Set global sound volume to 50 in settings.

Why is the default 100?

More obvious question: Why wouldn't it have been set to 100?

Because it causes crackling (for some users) ? the sound waves gets cut because of too high volume, or something like that... i guess.

Better to set up settings so it works good with everyone. Or is there something harmful to put it to 50?

Spring is my only game where my sounds crackles because of too high global sound o_o Never really noticed such bugs in any other games...

1. The top volume for sounds needs to be fixed, so that they can't clip.

2. The volume slider for Unit Replies (and it's Registry value) doesn't actually do anything, last time I tested, and needs to be fixed.

I didn't say so, I just said there might not have been any reason to earlier.

Too many mods use over-sampled sounds, or sounds that are at their maximum without clipping.

Normally that's not a big problem, but when you have 3 or more units using that same sound, it overlaps and multiplies until all sounds are just a fuzzy distorted mess.

Adjusting your volume is a quick fix, but doesn't solve the real problem.
