Spring 0.77b2 Release

Believe it or not, but version 0.77b2 is here, now with even more Lua inside.

Uhm, where is 0.77b1?
A serious bug (and some minor ones) have been discovered while making this release, so we decided to simply skip 0.77b1 and make a new release fast. If you have downloaded 0.77b1 before (e.g. the ubuntu package), you can still play online and won't lost sync with others.

Almost 10 months of development led to a huge amount of improvements, check out the changelog (no https) for details. As usual, there is a windows installer, and source archives for linux and windows.

Whats hot:
  • New shiny water shader (by jK). It uses bumpmaps, its both pretty and fast (see pic).
  • Improved performance (faster gameplay, more FPS)
  • Even more modding capabilities
  • Improved autohosting with dedicated server
  • as usual, lots of bugfixes

If the water shader uses bumpmaps, I guess it would be easy to add that functionality for units aswell? or not?

Talk about a coincidence!

I'm finally back to spring after several months, and I tell myself, why not directly try the beta since it should be released soon anyway. So I follow the instructions, download and install the 0.77b1, but then see a forum post that there's 0.77b2 available. (AHA!) I uninstall b1, download and install b2... and when launching TasClient it tells me I have an outdated version (WTF?). SO I re-install b1 back, and get the SAME message! (????) Re-installing b2, I finally get connected to the server... only for it to tell me it will be shutting down in a few minutes because the new game version is released! (!?!)

But it's great, since I'll be able to try the new version with many players now! (YAY!)

i'm on the phone right now, squirming around in my seat because i'm excited to try this out :D

thanks so much for the update guys, i know a lot of people have been waiting for this for a long time, and it represents a huge amount of work and dedication.

does this mean i can play the current version of PURE? and SWIW?

and can i enable ground decals...

Nice, finally =)

This version seems to run flawlessly compared to all previous (fps increase in global 100%-200% with same gfx settings) And the mouse pointer lag that has been plaguing me for ever (one of the worst annoyances i've had with spring.)

Keep up the good work, and release more often. I don'ät think anybody minding updating once per 5months compared to 10 months (and ofc adding new b versions even ofter as they work backwards if i understand correctly)

Any idea how to attach this to autohost, as I don't see a method of pulling it off at the moment.

Bump-mapped whater not working for me.. And the new text rendering is a bit wierd (hard to read sometimes) but im getting much better fps so i can live with it :-)
