Joint Lua Development Site/DocumentationWiki/SVN/Bugtracker?

Post by REVENGE »

Here's my idea towards a solution over the current forum clutter:

Host a dedicated Spring lua development site/page on someone who has spare server space/bandwidth. This site should provide [publicly?] accessible SVN space, a bugtracker [mantis?], and a documentation wiki page for each lua project.

What do you guys think?

I'm not sure a shared repo is a good idea, ideally every standalone widget should have it's own, since it's an independent beast. IceUI is a notable exception, but entirely due to it being an integrated package.

Documentation wiki already exists, needs much love though.

Bugtracker... may be a good idea, but from user's perspective I'm not sure; most things get done on the forums, volume of reports isn't big enough to justify the splitting IMHO. Again, a project like IceUI could benefit from its own bugtracker more. Engine bugs should obviously go to spring's mantis.

Don't want to sound negative, I just don't see the needs (except docs, of course ^^)

And IceUI has an own SVN+trac: https://meltrax.homeip.net/trac/IceUI

I don't even know why I didn't really announce that yet.. I only told a few people in person..

edit: If there is demand I can setup another SVN+trac quite easily but I can't really imagine it'll get used that much.. I could also make a lot more if each widget wants to have its own.. Personally I really like trac since it combines a wiki, a good SVN frontend and a ticketing system and they all work quite nice.. If anyone is interested, just PM me in the lobby or post here or whatever.. It's a matter of 5 minutes really.. Note though that my server is just a normal laptop on a DSL line but it has been pretty reliable the last months/years (for example MelBot is also on that server)..

I can host widget repo, problem is many widgets already have repo (CA).

So perhaps you could develop widgets there? (even specific for non-CA mods)

Oh nm SVN can use external link to link to other repositories..

So yeah, i can set that up..
I assume simple trac + svn will do.
If there is someone willing to maintain it, contact me for server access..

The site I'm talking about would only host vanilla widgets. That is, widgets that are compatible with all mods. Of course, it wouldn't matter what kind of config files the author included, but nothing should be hardcoded for one particular mod or another.

Afaik all CA widgets are compatible with all mods..

What makes you think they aren't?

Anyway, what im saying is, that great proportion of commonly used widgets (healthbars, formations even defenseranges etc) exist in latest copy in CA SVN.
