Holy crap, how did that slip under the radar?

Terrain looks absolutely gorgeous, and I love the fog of war...

Well TA3D was only submitted to Linux Game Tome a few days ago. Says Submitted by Anonymous on 2005-09-17 down the bottom somewhere. But it might have been submitted earlier somewhere else. I dunno.

It looks nice, but so much has to be done before it is really a game like spring.

The creator posted a IOTD on the Allegro community site a few weeks ago (for people who don't know french):

Can anyone post a compiled version?
I only have 2 NTFS partitions, so I can't compile it with my knoppix live cd (I wouldn't know where to begin anyway).

Someone recruit this dude to help us on Spring! well, ofcourse if he is capable of swallowing his pride and abandon his own project.

it does seem he implemented some FoW there.

Some of those original maps look better in that engine than they do converted straight to spring. Why cant our covnersions look as close as those do? The lava maps even have lava shooting up periodically!

I know why, because he is showing them from the right angles, that's why...and Painted Desert doesn't look better in that engine, it actually looks better in Spring :)

Well, I must admit the sprite based features dont look good at all, and I havent tried out painted desert in particular on spring, and the nanolathe animation is much better the way the SY's have done it.

But I have to agree spring beats the rest.

Seen as it is limited to TA maps all maps will suffer the heightmap/texture allignment issues, I don't see how anyone can say the terrain looks 'gorgeous' compared to Spring. :|

Eh, ran across him months ago, had some email conversations too.
The TA Spring project looks great :-) but I started TA3D because I like TA :-) and programming and this year I won't have time to work on TA3D or TA Spring if I decide to join their team.
That was from an email dated August 22nd. Also, it seems I was semi-responsible for one of his updates containing more screenshots, heh.

...Yeah, it's been done, but I argue that ta-spring is not at all wht I've been looking for. Their balancing ideologies are bordering the absurd
hehehehe... he is not alone! someone ought to tell him OTA was ported to Spring...

I was just saying that maps in TA looked more detailed but in spring on some maps they dont, not every map as pointed out, but a fair percentage, gorgeous isnt a befitting word though.

Well seince both progects are trying to do the EXACT same thing, why dont we just all work togther. I would like to see lava spurts on lava maps! That would rock!

If map features supported animation it would be pretty easy to do.
