would love to have a 90° Suicide Mortar- follow the Airgunny, but follow fast or what comes up, will be on your head..

A mod where you can select and command ANY unit visible on the board, even units belonging to the enemy! Of course, that means that the enemy can give orders to YOUR units as soon as he can see them.

And of course, some minimal common sense will be required for the units, they will never do anything like spontaneously attack other units of the same side... but even with that limit, an enemy can cause plenty of serious chaos by providing confusing orders to left and right among your ranks.

Scariest with this suggestion is that it could turn out to be a game that actually required some tactical and strategical skills to master, it's general weirdness notwithstanding. Damn, maybe we should give it a name... What about "Begriffsverwirrung"? That's (what I think) is the German word for the Swedish word "Begreppsf├â┬Ârvirring" which I think best is translated to English as "Concept Confusion".

  • A mod in which some units do squad warfare intelligently by themselves. (Finding cover by themselves, ordering a anti-tank launcher to a reasonable position when there is a tank.)
  • Units able to walk(and pathfind) on other objects possibly also units, bridges, etcetera. Maybe even units inside buildings and a mechanism to look inside buildings.
  • Spherical worlds.
  • More spherical worlds, and spaceships that can send units from one to other planets, and also fight in space. A fictional reason why you still need tanks in that sort of circumstance.(Need expensive/rare crystals for the spacecraft's antigrav or something.)
  • Spore-like creative creation of units by users.
  • Creation of units using part which are simulated with imaginary physics(for, say plasma conduits leading to energy weapons), and also need control systems. Preferably set up so it is not easy. Again, by users with enough skills.
  • RoR!
  • Proper fps, other networking mechanisms that are suited for that.
  • Rotate-able buildings.
Ok, they are not insane, but at least a bunch of them are very ambitious/hard. Also.. i think i got carried away.

I think that just spherical worlds + possibility of having many of then inside an empty space units could move through would be enough to take spring to new levels of awesomeness...

Holy shit that would be fucking awesome., Low grav, high velocity explosions, flashes just being shot out of their factory like a fucking bertha and mod in an outer explosion when they land. Could you fucking imagine that? 100 flashes just shoot into your base one after the other with no signs of stopping. The flashes drops destroy your infrastructure, then they start going comando on everything..

I had plans to implement a real PeeWee cannon via lua, but I checked out CA's code and apparently they already have some unit launcher code. It could easily be modified to launch units like in a real cannon. You could even have the units that shoot out obey physics, so that they damage whatever they impact.

So no, it's not really an insane feature request. In fact, I think I'll work on it after I finish writing the CTF gadget. 8)

Um... weren't this thread supposed to be about INSANE feature requests? The last couple of posts and their requests starts to creep off-topic, that is, towards the brinks of actual sanity...

Not that I mind that. It's good to have a thread were people might submit sane but more... em... what should we say... UNORTHODOX feature requests without being shot down at once :P .

Well, as this thread starts to venture towards some sort of sanity... let's throw in another spanner in the works, err, I meant, feature suggestion:

Let's leverage and improve the first person shooter experience of Spring! We DO have an RTS game with a FPS feature in it (even if the latter feels pretty much bolted, duct taped and stapled onto the RTS game) and that is quite a rare thing in open source games! Let's make it easier to create FUN hybrid RTS/FPS games (games where the BOTH the RTS and FPS functionality makes sense to use) as well as pretty much pure FPS games, based on maps for Spring (Folsom Dam Final comes to mind).

Seriously, if I were to create a constructive thread dedicated to discuss how to best improve and use the FPS part of Spring (in a fashion that does not hurt the RTS part, of course), what forum section is most appropriate for it? Development/Feature Requests feels a bit off, as this is a too large concept to be discussed as a single feature request. It will take looong time to identify and implement, one by one, all the small features that will enhance the FPS and hybrid FPS/RTS games in Spring (and which probably also will enhance parts of the RTS games as well).

Ok, enough long post! Keep the good insane ideas coming!

Just make sure that when they land they don't magically not have falling damage. I mean, they need a landing system imo. Also, droppings from space shouldnt be OP. (I posted those ideas here because they might be very hard/ambitious.)
And yes, with rotate-able buildings i mean buildings able to rotate any angle, not just 90 degree multiples.
As for an insane request, do we have a lolcat mod yet?

I want Animals than can be tripmined...

or how about a MapMorpher- you can built a Building and this organises a Random Map that all Players have, a Map the same Size and morphs the Map slowly into the next one... so you started with Speedmetall234 and ended upon Riverdale234 ? Things can happen, surprise...

I (not really)want a magnetic Forcefield, pushing a undamaged Unit away, to keep the Area clear as long as only a limitied Number approaches the Defenses.. but once the Number is bigger than the PushAway Firerate this Fences brake

I want a program that detects then a game I would want to join is created and automatically opens spring, joins it, calls me to the computer and make other people enter the game as well.

Flying Farks.
Tech 2 Flash that has 6 EMG's but is fast, so basically a tank version of the core Pyro built for Arm.
Less fags on spring.
