Oldish but I believe that it was truth.

PHPBB is a little dumb... If you edit a post and haven't used proper formatting for your URLs:
Then it breaks the formatting of the URL and uses the automatically shortened version...
If it's an option, we can probably turn URL chopping off, the new site should handle page stretching better.
Code: Select all
http://my.url.ca

Re: Piracy article
I kind of agree with the article.
I disagree that people who pirate your software and people who buy your software are mutually exclusive groups. I know I'm in the minority, but I like to try a piece of software before I invest money in it. I generally "obtain" a game before I even think about buying it - which could mean anything from pirating it to borrowing it from a friend. I then demo it, and if it's something I want to play more, I buy it.
For example, I "obtained" both Sins of a Solar Empire and Europa Universalis 3. Neither have copy protection of course (Paradox, like Stardock, doesn't believe in it). I decided that SOSE was not something I'd like to play, while EU3 was. So, after pirating EU3, I went out and dropped $60 on EU3 plus its two expansions. If Paradox had gone all gung-ho with uber copy protection to the point where EU3 was not pirateable (impossible I know, but just for the sake of argument), I for one would not have bought it, because I can't justify investing $20+ into a game that's an unknown.
...then again, I may have just reinforced his argument.

Re: Piracy article
I know this will sound weird but...
I have a bigger problem with "Obtaining" Something without built in copy protection than I do when something has built in copy protection.
I suppose in my mentality it boils down to "They aren't being useless cumdumpsters, so neither will I". I kinda doubt anyone shares that POV though.

Re: Piracy article
DRM is just a corporate bullshit excuse to put spyware and crap on people computers, why else would they "just happen" to put it on free demos and stuff, plus it doesn't do jack shit against piracy except make the pirated copy work better...
I bet they figure that dumb people will buy more copies when their DRM kicks in and prevents them from using software they bought, but I think statistically the amount of people put off and stop buying things altogether is bigger...

Re: Piracy article
Yeah DRM tends to just piss people off who bought the game.
