Google Chrome

First impressions anyone? Feels pretty fast, and Flash works, but I'm waiting to see if it eats less mem than Firefox. Pretty good for a V0.2 release.

And I just saw some rendering errors while posting this, oh well. :/

I noticed a handful of errors in the spring site but tbh those would be fixed by proper formatting, namely that the page ends where the page ends and there's white underneath if the page si not as tall as the viewing space.

Its extremely fast loading up for me, the start up time from cold is instantaneous literally, my fingers still doing the double click on the desktop icon when it pops up, same with making new tabs.

The spell checkers alright, and the headings go well with the aero sfx. Under vista non active tabs are translucent and the background is aero glass like media player and explorer. Right clicking on text autoselects the word under the mouse too

Hmm. I've been using it with Vista Classic, so I guess I'm missing out on the shiny stuff. :/

But one weird bug that I've noticed: I can't use my trackpad to scroll up, only down...

Browsing this with Chrome atm.

Seems scrolling is disfunctioned on popups which is annoying although it's a simple browser and is not cluttered or complicated which I most definitely like. Would be nice having an info bar at the bottom like other browsers showing load progress, download progress and other little bits and bobs but I guess I could get used to it.

This incognito thing looks interesting:
You've gone incognito. Pages that you view in this window won't appear in your browser history or search history, and they won't leave other traces, like cookies, on your computer after you close the incognito window. Any files that you download or bookmarks that you create will be preserved, however.

Going incognito doesn't affect the behaviour of other people, servers or software. Be wary of:
Websites that collect or share information about you
Internet service providers or employers that track the pages that you visit
Malicious software that tracks your keystrokes in exchange for free smileys
Surveillance by secret agents
People standing behind you
Time to explore!

There is a bar at the bottom but it only shows itself when your loading a page or downloading stuff then when that's done it auto hides.

There's also a fire-bug style thing built in and middle click auto scroll doesn't work

Mmm, I'm using it with Aero now, and I must say this visual styling is perfect. Simplistic and sexy, and makes good use of glass transparency.

Very slick , looks great in Vista with Aero, and everything opens really fast. No middle slick scrolling, which sucks, and for some reason scrolling in general is really laggy. Everything else is awesome (typing in it right now) . I like how in the address bar the main website is in black, and the http:// and anything after the .com is in gray. The tab start thing is pretty cool too.

Really, this is what FF3 should've been. Now if only they would include a true download manager with their final release. :P

well, it needs adblock, noscript, smooth scroll and full page zoom for me to even start considering using it. it's fast though, as in, fast fast.

It seems most of the stuff I use ( Radio, realplayer, weebly ) and other stuff obviously don't support Chrome yet so I'll wait awhile till it's supported in most places before it becomes my default browser :)

This is odd....

I had google chrome open while playing an online game, listening to online radio, after a period of time I started getting lag spikes every few seconds.

So I close the radio thinking it might be that somehow, sure enough it stops but when I reopened google chrome with a blank page I started getting lag spikes again.

WTF is google chrome doing? I dont like my browser phoning home

EDIT:

"11.3 You understand that Google, in performing the required technical steps to provide the Services to our users, may (a) transmit or distribute your Content over various public networks and in various media;"

WTF??

You do know there's a big check box in options you can enable/disable phoning home with?

As a developer it makes very good sense that you would want beta software to send you details on crashes and what features are being used (or not used) so that the final release actually works and you can make improvements.

Hm. Faster than ff3 on my machine... mem footprint is very nice... love the encapsulation (if one tab crashes or hangs, it doesn't affect the whole browser)... if those three were the only consideration I would switch browsers now, but a lot of the little details are annoying me...
- no middle click free scroll
- tab above address bar is annoying, I have to mouse farther to click the tab
- their address bar context sensitivity needs to be streamlined a bit, it works nicely but takes up too much screen
- I'd rather have Chrome without the, well, Chrome - just give me bog-standard windowsXP windows, without the extra ram spent on sparklies please.
- Speaking of which, if you are making custom window dressing, having such small and hard to click min/max/close buttons is really poor form.

That's my first reaction anyway.

the custom window dressings only take effect on pre-Vista windows.

I find I cant add words to the dictionary, and double clicking on things selects all sorts of things including the entire page if its in the right place, quite disconcerting

I really like the minimalist style of google chrome, feels like it's made my screen bigger just cos it has less crap in the way of the websites.

Hadn't seen that part of the license though. That is unusually scary, makes you wonder what they're driving at with that part...

Edit: Actually, I just re-read it and it's not so scary as it first appears. I think I have an idea of why that's in there.
