is it possible to modify spring/lobby in that way, that u could change mod/number of players without rehosting?

Hopefully not so we don't have people filling up a game on a popular mod/map then switching it out for something like CA or NOTA and ring the hell out of people.

we could add a protocol feature to change the maximum number of players while hosting a battle... I'm against changing the mod without rehosting though

Changing max players would be entirely useful. Please implement it aegis.

could probably just throw it on the end of UPDATEBATTLEINFO, though lobby devs will need to implement it

Updating the rank limit would be much more useful, if lots of high ranks join you don't want to keep the rank limit off, but you don't want to rehost either...
