I haven't read most of the comments in this thread, but let me say I think Spring has a really nice community compared to a lot of other games. This especially applies to the really cool people in the CA community.

I agree. The CA community is the friendliest and most welcoming community. I suggest you try it out. :-)

I heartily recommend getting Satiriks latest lobby and CAs new springdownloader, as it has integrated teamspeak in it. I find it much easier to help new guys on teamspeak than in ally chat as it doesn't kill my APM and is much faster.

Lobby can be obtained by updating from lobby/help and links.
Springdownloader can be had from http://www.caspring.org

I also think that merciless bastards like myself should be given unbridled dictatorial powers in order to curb the rising amount of lamers ;)

Noobs crying about getting raped and getting no help.
GIVE ME A BREAK.
Go try out any game online and try asking for help.
Unless you haress someone or get a lucky break nobody will deal with you.

Why should someone waste his time dealing with you?
Games on the spring engine are very complex and it takes a lot of time to expalin how to play well.
Just watch a few replays of good players and see what they do...The best way to learn, much better than going around asking what to do.

I'm not sure suggesting CA is a good idea as it was a CA game he was kicked out of ;) Anyhow, I was in the game that I'm guessing Tark is ranting about. His team thought he was AFK and he was in danger of losing his comm to a single peewee (or whatever CA calls the unit this week). I certainly don't remember him coming in and saying "OHAI, I iz new, I can haz help plz?" but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Anyhow, when you join a big team game full of high ranked players, it's kind-of expected that you know your way around, as one terrible player can ruin a whole game for everybody else on his team.

I can't imagine him being kicked from the game unless he didnt respond for a long time to "Tark? You here?", and they probably paused when this happened.

yeah it was paused and he was getting his com killed by a peewee and his only other building were 2 solars.

I can see how he needs help learning how to play, but it was a 12 player game and he wasn't even responding, what do you thinks going to happen?

you play any game and don't respond for a long time by lagging out or being afk you'll get kicked, it's not special.

i must say that u cant expect a new player to note the chat messages because among 50 "unitXY cant reach destination" messages the 5 "are u there" messages are not very noticeable, specially while the new player is busy with game controll, micro etc...

if you're giving commands to units I don't think people would ask if you're there.

I think IceUI should be mandatory in spring and anyone who doesn't want to use it should be placed into a burlap sack and beaten with reeds. Pretty standard really.

Ooo I was in that game, I took his stuff.

It wasn't that he was being a newbie, he had ridiculous levels of lag and (from the point where I joined the battle before it started at least) was, let's say, not winning any awards for sociability.

For my own part I always try to help new players and give them guidance, so long as they're polite and take notice.

I find it very disrespectfull to join a team game if you dont know the basics of how to play the game (unleash you let everone well aware of your noobage first). I was in that game too and Tark was not doing anything nor respoing, so we tough he was afk :) Later on a joined a game Tark had made but he just kicked me straigh away winhout explanation, so I have to agree he is not exactly a sociable person :)

Indeed I find that CA community is, in the overall, very nice. I also find that most of it kick ass in CA, what my ass sorely regrets :)

I do think our community needs to be more newbie friendly tough, not so much in the part of getting spring to work, but a lot in the matter of helping people learn the mods.

SMURFS' fault ONCE AGAIN !!! because of them we're used to see rank 1 player playing like veterans ... and when we meet a new players rank 1 we insult him because he really plays bad for a smurf !!

if you want to kill the smurfs .... add a rank limit to your games ... and auto spec them ... smurf won't be able to play, you won't have big noobs doing crap and unbalanced battle, and new players will not whine because the community sucks

Me too. Actually I help players no matter how impolite they are if I got time and they actually ask for help.

It's not. If there's no rank limit, blame the host, not the players joining. If there is a rank limit, demand the players below it kicked.
